I did mine myself. I covered the bit with vasoline, and every full turn, I pulled it out and wiped it down, recovering it with vasoline, and that did the trick.
My truck ran just fine after that.

There are several good ways to extract shavings when you are using a tap. If the head is iron, you can magnetize the tap. If the head is aluminum, you can try coating the tap with grease before tapping. In both cases, make sure you back the tap out frequently to clean the shavings from the tapping surface.
I know that other people are going to comment on this, but truth be told, if you get some shavings into the cylinder, you can get most of them out by modifying a blow gun with a piece of 1/4 inch copper tubing. If you insert it into the cylinder, through the plug hole, you can generally blow out any big chunks. The little stuff will either burn or exit through the exhaust valve. It is bet if all of the above is done with the piston near TDC.

Pack the flutes of the tap with grease.
If there's any tap cuttings which come loose,,they'll get blown out the exhaust port when engine starts.
Odds of a problem occurring are practically NONE.
Problems arise from either dry cutting,,which lets everything fall into cylinder,,,
Or using oil/cutting fluid which doesn't contain the chips.
All that falls into motor and gets swirled around.
Med/heavy grease will trap almost all the stuff.
Seems scary,,,but it's been done a that way for decades.
Tip:
When tapping,,break the chips by reversingTap .
Go IN a turn or 2,,then reverse till you feel it snap the cutting off,,,then continue forward.
That also helps direct & pack the chips into the grease between the taps flutes
DO NOT "wash" the fresh tapped hole.
OK to wipe any stuff away from plug opening.
But you DONT want any WD-40,,etc,, no light/thin cleaner/oil that will was the crap down onto top of piston,,,when it'll go into area on top of rings.
The grease will "stick" it to piston top,,or cylinder head.
When Engine starts,,it'll blown out.
If it "drizzles" over into cylinder wall/piston gap,,it'll try to stay there
Tapping a plug hole on an assy'd motor is one of those things ya just close your eyes and play like it ain't happening,,,lol.
Sounds & Seems terrible,,,but it works out fine

this question is very difficult to answer.
I personally don't like helicoil....
The usage of helicoil is restricted to a bolt that will stay on and not being removed as often as an spark plug.
if install it .the first time will be outstanding fine. the second time may not.
my last thinking, use it one time next time take it to a mechanic
removing and installing the head doean't mean that You have to shave it'.

If you have to tap the spark plug hole with new threads, you might get some shavings in the cylinder. Helicoil sells millions of thread inserts, but most are installed by professionals with the head off.

It's almost impossible to get them all, but the fact is, aluminum shaving are probably not going to hurt the engine. They won't scratch hard steel and will burn up in about 2 seconds.

you could try stuffing in a oily rag first then pull it out when done, this should take care of it, if it's a aluminum head then it's less of a problem :)
you could also use a blow gun with a small curved tip to blow it out
