NEVER replace ANY part till you know the problem. As you have learned, the hard way, "it could be" " I think it might be" are not good diagnostics. When you hear this from a "mechanik" get out and find a knowledgeable one. You say it won't keep running. Is this driving or idling ?? Does it misfire, hesitate when accelerating, lose power ?? A few more symptoms would help. If it dies when idling it could be a simple vacuum leak. Do you have a check engine lite on ??if so get the codes. This does not require a scanner on obd 1 cars. Your "mechanik" should know how to retrieve them. A trouble code does not indicate a bad sensor , the sensor is only telling the computer there is a problem, it's up to the "mechanik" to find the problem.

it could be a bad throttle positioning sensor, or a bad MAP sensor. With that car, you can read the basic codes by turning the key off and on three times, and counting the flashes the check engine light. A better solution is to have a real computer scan done, some auto parts places will do the scan for free!
