The bolt heads stretch as you tighten them. Like a spring or rubber band. If you stretch the bolts (elongation) they are overstressed and the extra stress the running motor puts on them might stretch them enough to break them or cause head gasket failure. Stripping, head distortion and block distortion are also considerations. If tightening them harder was a good idea the specs would tell you that.

Yes, it's bad. You can distort the head, or you can stretch the bolts, reducing their strength and possibly leading to costly engine damage.
If you already did it, best thing is to get a new head gasket, take the head off, check it for flatness, and measure the bolt lengths. Any that are now too long should be replaced.

yes ,you will not get even clamping and end up with a head gasket problem or warp the head,the bolts could fail later
if you over torque then back them off to properly retourque you could get a head gasket leak from over compressing the gasket

Its bad to over torque your head bolts because you may damage your gasket seal. try using a high heat permatex on your bolts for lock tight and twist them only until there is little strain.

Well, if you want to warp your heads or block, but usually they will just break when the motor heats up. Never over torque, its a bad thing.

why? you can rip the studs or threads right out of the block.
why not? it is so easy to blow a head gasket with the head not on the block tight enough.
