Maintenance & Repairs - October 2006

Car just had its 96000 mile service. Its a 1.9 HDI Rapier 2000.

Mechanic reported work that still needs attention. It is as follows:

"Tensioner and roller visually ok but should be replaced to gurantee. Needs new P/S & AC belt. Middle exhaust pipe broken at back box. Requires new back box and centre pipe."

I have no idea what that all means - apart from exhaust problem. How important are the other reported faults to fix? How much will they cost roughly? Can an average tyre and exhaust centre fix the exhaust prob and if so roughly how much will that cost.

Thanks

I'm taking my car into inspection today, and this is my first time ever doing this. So I was wondering what the exact list is that they ask you to do.

I think the car battery is dying on my 03' ford focus. I bought it used, but it's now approaching 50,000. It's been having a little trouble starting. Should I go ahead and replace the battery?

I read the book, the light was on steady which means it's an emission control problem. My wife put gas in it and I noticed the cap may have been loose a little (a condition the book says could cause this) but I wasn't sure. It was also a wet day but she said she didn't drive through any big puddles(another possible cause). So I just want to know how dangerous this is to the engine and the best way to get that light off if it were caused by either bad gas or the fact the cap was loose. Thx

My van is only 4 years old but when the roads are very wet it literally conks out! Smoke billows from exhaust and no power in 1st or 2nd gear. If i manage to coax into higher gear it can ramble (literally) along until i get home but will only move intermittently in 1st or 2nd. it's a diesel and is not going anywhere right now.

about 3 mths ago I had music system installed in my 94 nissan sentra. Shortly after that I had to replace my battery and alternator because my car wouldn't start. I then took out the system and the red wire that ran from the battery to the amp, the amp was only 200watts and the speakes where 10s. I removed them all except for a white and blue wire that was attacked to my radio system that came with my car and now 3 months later my car want start again and it is showing the same signs as the first time. I am a female with kids, I now very little about cars but I need to learn and i need my car for my children.

Hello,

I have a 1993 jeep wrangler. I just received a set of 4 Dodge Ram 17" rims and tires. They are both a five bolt pattern but do not align up or fit. Is there any thing that I can buy to make them fit besides changing the axles.

Any or all infoemation would be really appreciated!!

Thanks in Advance and God Bless!!
