A lot depends on how you drive your car. Highway miles the tuneup will last a lot longer because it is easier on the engine. Less stop and go and engine temps are constant. City driving is harder on an engines tuneup parts .temps are hotter too. Fuel octane has a lot to do with it as well. Higher octane has more detergents and helps burn off the carbon build up on plugs and valves. Best bet is to gauge the gas mileage. If you see a drop off in performance and mileage, then whatever the mileage is, just tune it up. I personally do the tune up with my filters. the filters indicate to me when i need to service the engine. I will check air and fuel filters, if the filters are in need of replacing, i just do the entire tune up the same time. Average can range from 60k to 100k because of the higher energy ignition systems in todays cars.
good luck

Aside from oil changes that should be done every 3000 miles it depends on what kind of spark plugs you have. If you have platinum spark plugs many modern cars can go 100,000 miles before their first tune up. There should be tune up information in your owners manual on it.

With the advent of computer controls and modern technology most vehicles should be good for around 100000 miles before a plug change is required.. Refer to your owners manual for other scheduled services...some vehicles will require a timing belt change somewhere around 60,000 to 70,000 miles.. If your car is one of these dont over look that, as it can be a expensive repair if the belt breaks...
