Hey guys she does not understand why on a beam axle where the whole assembly moves up and down what the need for ball joints is? In this beam axle truck just turning right and left ball joints are easier than two king pins to turn the steering knuckle on. Even some 4x4 trucks with enclosed U joints there are two ball joints. Lubrication every time you pull out of deep water is critical

ball joints are simple they fit in a hole in the spindle, everytime the spindle goes up and down or turns left and right the ball joint is the pivot point of this movement. on a solid front axel truck they serve only as left and right as a solid axel moves up and down but both wheels are affected, not one. ball joints are important. ill bet u have either a ford or a chevy very common problem for both i recommend replacing them however it is an expensive task but not difficult

They allow up and down as well as right and left movements to the transmission shaft. In the absence of this flexibility, there would simply be no transmission only breakage followed by wreckage

They're the pivot point for the front wheels. They allow them to turn left and right and for the suspension to move up and down. 2wd cars have the same.
