changed plugs and wires successfully and then after that the remote doesn't work, neither do door locks, alarm and stereo. can't get into the trunk either. All little connectors under the hood seem to be okay. Does anyone out there have any suggestions where I should look next?

i have a 2001 malibu that i have had to have the passenger side break and roator replaced 2 times in the past 4 years. my father "claims" its because i live on a dirt road but do not trust what he says because he would lie about it just because he doesnt like where i live to start with. (keep in mind that he is presistant in thinking i should build a house beside him and i belive this car thing is just a ploy to get me to build this house and live beside him because he thinks he can lie to me about the car knowing i dont know anything about cars and hoping i wont ask anybody else and find out he is lying!

I got HONDA ACCORD 1996 saloon manual patrol. Few weeks back engine management light came up, I showed it to a local mechanic and he said it’s because of your EGR valve. Before that my car needs water for reradiate now and then. I took my car for 200 miles (emergency family visit) on the motorway it started stalling I got it checked and dealer told me its your head gas kit. So he changed Head Gas Kit and cam belt as well. I drove the car back and engine management light came up again. I checked the code manually it’s 12 which is for EGR valve. I get the EGR valve replaced with an other Honda but light came up again even after clearing it. So problem is not with EGR valve but something else. Car drives superb. Some one told me it could be “solenoid”. I’m not sure. I would appreciate if you could please help me with detailed answer on rmunir@hotmail.co.uk . Thanking you, Regards ..Riz

I read online to jiggle the steering wheel to try to release the steering wheel lock, but since DH decided to take the keys with him anyway, I haven't had a chance to try it. Any other ideas to try when he gets home and before I have to take it to a mechanic?

It's the plastic bit that goes over the top of the wheel to stop dirt and stones flying up and hitting the inside of the car.

Any idea what it's called? Where can I get one? Does it have to be fitted by a mechanic or can I get my dad to do it??

I heard that if my car shifts with a bang, it's possible that it's the vacuum modulator that's gone bad, and i want to try to replace it to see if it will get better.

I have a 1999 Nissan Maxima (VQ30DE 3.0l V6) with custom headers, a catback exhaust, and a highflow catalytic converter. I was wondering if it is possible for me to be losing power due to the lack of backpressure that is seen on a stock exhaust.

The other night my 2001 Honda Accord (2.3l) began losing acceleration power. It kept getting worse and worse and I noticed that in first gear the car would not have enough power to move itself unless I gave it a high rev. The next day the problem continued to worsen as I noticed that the engine was surging and lagging all across the powerband. I drove home from work the same day and the acceleration was almost non existent, a few minutes after leaving work it finally died and has refused to start since. The Check engine light never came on and it is not the fuel pump.

My elderly neighber (80 yrs plus) is having trouble with her Cadillac. Shes' on a fixed income, so I need to help her out. I'm pretty good with a wrench, but sure could use some help on this one! The dealer wants $600.00 for plugs and wires, installed. Napa $120.00 for parts. The car has 93457 miles on it, and rats have chewed the wires. That P0717--Does that mean the trani is shot? Auto Zone said it's getting low voltage. Can I fix this? The service engine light is on, and on the dash it says "service the transmission". I changed the filter and trani fluid six months ago. The fluid is clean, no discoloration, and no burnt odor. It appears as new as when I put it in, and it is on the full mark. Any help or links will be welcome. Thank You, Rowdy

Without trial and error and thus destroying an engine (or several engines), how would one decide what the maximum safe rpm's of an engine would be? I can understand that the factory may be willing to sacrifice several engines in an experiment of selfdestruction but I do not believe that the redline on a factory tach is that accurate. I have seen cars with the same tach and same redline shown on it despite quite different engine options. I also believe that the factory would pick a conservative RPM and then show the redline to be somewhat below that, just to discourage people from abusing their product (especially while under warrany) So, if some hotrodder takes an engine and has it balanced, and new cam and springs installed and any number of other modifications, how does he know/guess what the redline will be ? That is without actually destroying the engine and then deciding that the redline would be less then that.?
