The metal plate comes off the back by loosening the allen set screw. You will need an allen wrench of the proper size. An allen wrench is also called a hex wrench. It looks like an "L" with hex sides.
Take the plate off. If the plate does not slide off easily, some bozo glued the mirror to the plate. You will need to immerse the plate in nailpolish remover to dissolve the glue.
Next, glue only the plate onto the windshield with the glue everybody here is talking about. Wait for it to dry. Then slide the mirror over the plate, reinset the set screw, then retighten. You have to do it this way because the mirror is too heavy to just glue it onto the windshield and hope that you can hold it there long enough to dry. This never works because your hand will wiggle. You may even drop the mirror and get 7 years bad luck, so just do it the way I specified above.

The metal plate in most cases is held on by an allen bolt. Keeping it attached to the mirror. I use regular super glue to reattach my mirrors. Clean the glass really good. I like to use rubbing alcohol to clean it with a cotton ball or two. Take the metal plate off with an allen wrench. Making sure to notice how it was on the mirror before taking it off. Put your glue on the metal plate and place it center where the mirror was located in the first place. Once again make sure you put it on the window as it would have been if it was still attached. Don't put to high up to the top otherwise you won't be able to mount your mirrior. Hold it there for about 3 minutes or alittle more. Then let it stay there for about another 1/2 hour before slidding your mirror back over the metal plate. Snug the allen bolt down. Not really tight, just snug so it won't be lose. Take care.

You will need to go to AutoZone an get a mirror adhesive kit. You will also need a razor blade (single edge), a clean rag, and some tape. Scrape the old cement off the window, after marking from the out side the location of the old mirror. Follow the instructions on the kit an mount the new one. Every mirror that I have come in contact with has a boot that is held in place with a set screw. It is best to remove the mirror from the boot or shoe be fore mounting the new one.
Good Luck

its true there is a glue kit that will do the job,,but most people have a hard time with it,,you can take it to a glass shop,,and they will do it for 20 bucks,,and the glue kit cost about 5 or 6 bucks,,and if it don't hold that money is wasted,,the glass shop will guarantee it,,i think you know the wiser decision here,,hope this helps.
