My elderly neighber (80 yrs plus) is having trouble with her Cadillac. Shes' on a fixed income, so I need to help her out. I'm pretty good with a wrench, but sure could use some help on this one! The dealer wants $600.00 for plugs and wires, installed. Napa $120.00 for parts. The car has 93457 miles on it, and rats have chewed the wires. That P0717--Does that mean the trani is shot? Auto Zone said it's getting low voltage. Can I fix this? The service engine light is on, and on the dash it says "service the transmission". I changed the filter and trani fluid six months ago. The fluid is clean, no discoloration, and no burnt odor. It appears as new as when I put it in, and it is on the full mark. Any help or links will be welcome. Thank You, Rowdy

Your P0300 is random misfire. Plugs and wires a good place to start, but MAY not be all of the problem.
Your P0717 is input shaft turbine "A" circuit no voltage. Probably not shot, but start with checking all of the harness and plugs externally first. If you changed the filter in it, it is possible that you disturbed a connection to a sensor. if you don't see anything, then it is going to take at least a scanner that you can see data with (not just a code reader) to see what voltage the PCM sees.
I have been into those codes a bit, and sometimes we have just repositioned a wire and retainer. But then sometimes we have had to go into the trans as well. It is a repair that can be a bit expensive, but not necessarily bankrupting (most of the time).

If there's a blown head gasket..it extremely is going to likely be high priced. have you ever been dropping any water...any discoloration interior the radiator resevoir...any white smoke coming from the exhaust?.....a blown head gasket won't many times set off the engine easy except the water stages drop plenty and the engine overheats. examine your oil to work out if there is any water entering into the oil...if water is interior the oil it extremely is going to look milky and that's close to continuously a reliable sign the gasket is blown or you have a cracked block. An engine could on no account be run if there is any indication of water interior the oil. make optimistic they examine the timing and the plug wires and all correct timing gadgets.
