Maintenance & Repairs - August 2006

This might be a myth. I was told that if a car jump-starts another that the charging car will have its alternator weakened. Has anyone else ever heard this ?

I have an 04nissan altima...about 25500 miles on it. When I accelerate its making a rattling/grinding noise. Not all the time though. Sometimes going up hills, sometimes on flat roads, sometimes if I have my AC on. When I do drive at 35mph I did notice it was more constant. Also when I was sitting in park with the car running, the car sounds like it's going to shut off...kinda like its not getting enough gas. To top it off my SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT came on. It came on last week, but I got gas & the light went off. The car itself drives fine except for the problem I described.

No smoke from the engine, no overheats, my fluids are all at the proper levels.

Any ideas? I take the car in tomorrow to get it looked at but want to be prepared.

when the car engine is cold, it would not start, but when it is hot, it start easily.

I have a 1970 Cutlass S. This was a limited edition in that year. The body is GREAT!! It just needs a transmisson and a new frame. The miles on it are 67,000 original miles ( I confirmed it with the BMV). I know that it will cost a pretty penny to rehab it ( some parts will have to be shipped to Ohio for me from CA), but I dont know if it will be worth it in the end. I do have a reliable vehicle that I use daily. What should I do??

I have an '87 Honda Accord. It was a great car until I took it to my mechanic for a tune-up. They replaced all of the belts, the air filter, fuel filters, spark plugs, cap and rotor. Since then, the car has actually been running worse than it did before. The gas mileage dropped from 30 to around 24mpg. It is embarrasingly sluggish on hills (I can't even make it up to the speed limit when I'm going up a hill). And when I'm accelerating quickly (especially on the freeway), something (like a sputter?) happens that causes the car to lose it's momentum for a second and makes the car jerk violently. It's kind of like you're going 60 mph and then suddenly the car loses power for a second. I've already taken the car back to the same mechanic and they wouldn't admit that there was a problem. I'm taking it to a new mechanic next week, but I'd like to get an idea of what could be wrong before I take it in.

At the bottm\em the was some tipe of filter it Could of bhen a bunch of stuff that came in but it was all toghter. If you have a ATV tell me whats at the bottm of the airfilter box. Thanks

-Radiator has been replaced, date unknown.
-Cap Replaced
-Thermostat replaced
-Belts fine
-Both fans operating

It'll hold the coolant for a week, but it'll throw it out through the reservoir little by little until it is gone... causing the car to overheat.. and bubbling the coolant in reservoir.

My guess is--> radiator Flush??

One other question is, Is the reservoir supposed to be Leak proof? Ive heard the radiator sucks back the coolant?? There seems to be some play where the Reservoir cap and tube is.


I'm trying to omitt problems with cheaper prblms first.. avoiding expensinve ones, i.e., Water Pump.

Any help would be great.

Will post end result if Fixed and How.

I've got an 1995 isuzu rodeo that keeps running hot. Thre water pump has been replaced as well as the radiator and all the hoses. The fan in front of the truck is running when i crank it up. Someone told me to check the fan to make sure it is working. Does anyone have any idea what it could be now.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How hard is it to take out and install a new alternator on a 1990 ford taurus 3.0 V6. My mom's just went out and she can't afford to get a mechanic to do it, so my best friend is going to try to get the old one out and reinstall the new one for her.

The engine is only heard at idle or when I accelerate (Gas). It sounds like an exhaust noise but its in the front of the car by the engine. I crawled under the car and the noise came from under the engine. Wow!! my car sounds like a racing car But I dont like it infront of the car.LOL. Please help with repair and pricing estimastes.

I already changed the starter coil that runs from the distribiter cap,but the car is still giving no type of sparks out.The car will turn over,but won't start.
