This might be a myth. I was told that if a car jump-starts another that the charging car will have its alternator weakened. Has anyone else ever heard this ?

i own a repair shop,,and yes in under certain conditions it can damage a alternator,,especially if the car your trying to jump off has a bad battery that is not accepting the voltage from your car,,it puts a strain on your alternator,,to try and throw enough voltage to the other car,,i have seen several damaged alternators over this problem,,just be care full and always look at the connections real good to make sure there on right/

not so., tho if you jump another car and your car is not running, you can run down your own battery
