It is normal for the cooling fan to stay on until the thermostat/sensor determines that the coolant has cooled down. As Mr. Knowitall said above. If the fan stays on more then a few minutes then you need to have the sensor checked.

There is a temperature control switch mounted to the bottom of the radiator with a pair of wires going to it.
If the water in the radiator is above 180 degrees it will keep the fan on untill it cools down.
You probably haven't noticed because it's been hotter outside lately.
It should stay on for a couple minutes. Not long enough to drain the battery.
If it stays on for more than five minutes or so, you might want to have it replaced.
DUMMIES!! IT COOLS THE WATER IN THE RADIATOR!!

In most cars, its normal for a cars fan to continue runnin after the engine is disengaged because it still needs to cool the engine. Jes cuz you cut it off, dont mean the engine cools off rite away.

The electric temp switch usually screwed into the radiator. if it stays on too long,, after the car is off, 1/2 hour or so,, have it replaced
