I got into an accident over a month ago, it was my fault. My car had about $1500 worth of damage and the other car, SUV (had no damage) just paint job/scrape. Since there was no bodily harm, and basically no damage to the SUV, we decided to take care of it offline (no cops/insurance companies involved). The person who I hit said, he will provide me with an estimate later on. A month passed, I sold my damaged car and the person now finally got back to me with an estimate of $750 for paint to the rear bumper. $750 is too much for just paint and I feel the person is ripping me off. What will happen if I take this matter to my insurance company and that I sold the damaged car already? I only have liability coverage.

I scratched my car while driving into the underground parking garage of my new home.
I will lose my safe driver discount and my premiums will go up $850.00. It's happened to a lot of other folks in the building. It's a tight squeeze but they since no other car was involved they see me as more than 50% at fault. Has anyone ever sucessfully appealed a surcharge notice?
I'm going to try and get other people's stories. Will that help?

I had an accident recently..
my car was parked in the street just in front of the house, an unknown car came and hit the rear(back) of my car and got written off by the insurence company. i had a full cover insurance and they payed me back the coast of the car..
but the real thing is there is no details of the car or driver involved in the accident, and the police still investigating to get the details..
for the insurance company this is an open claim and fault is mine
i had 4 years no claim discount, does this affect my no claim discount bonus.?

I had a wreck two years ago this October, I was wondering how long an insurance company can look back on my record? Its been two years since I have had any wrecks or tickets but my rates are still high, I was thinking if I switch companies and didnt tell them about the wreck I would have a clean record?

It's a luxury vehicle and worth well over $20k. I'm in a cash crunch but don't want to get in serious legal trouble. As far as I can determine, I've got the vehicle and the title and I should be able to sell this car and pay down the debt with the proceeds, albeit, not in the full amount. Opinions?

I have a 17 yr old that has already gotten 2 tickets so I want him off my policy - as he is making it too expensive for me to afford -
I told him he needs to get his own insurance. I already called my insurance and tried taking him off my policy (as I took away his driving privelages) but they told me I HAVE TO keep him on my policy even if he doesn't drive - He has a license and has to be covered under my policy because he lives with me - so I can't take him off til he gets his own insurance. My problem - most co's will not issue a policy to anyone under 18 (PS - we live in New Jersey)

In CA it’s the law that you must have a valid driver’s license and insurance to be on the road. I got cut off by a truck and when I took evasive I went off to the side via off ramp where the car had just stalled full of Mexicans the driver had no insurance and no drivers license and car was from Washington state. I figure that she shouldn't have been on the road to begin with and she assumes full responsibility for choosing to break the law and drive illegally, any lawyers online that can help me out? Worried about the passengers suing.

I got pulled over last night because the cop knew me and my car, but I had my seatbelt on, my lights on, and I was doing the speed limit. I got two tickets for not having a license and proof of insurance, and the cop never turned on his lights either. I was wondering if thats legal, or is it harrassment?

A non-American girl, arrives in the USA to start her studies. She has a drivers license she received from her home country. There is this "law" saying that if a foreing person already has a driver's license he/she can transfer it into an american drivers license without taking the road test. So she did just that.

She went to an auto insurance agency. The person there simply asked her whether she has been driving for 4 years, without specifying that she had to be driving in the USA for 4 years. She answered positively even though she hadnt been driving in the USA for 4 years. Now she is insured with that company.

I'm 22 from the same country just got my drivers license in the USA without "transfering" the one i got from my home country. I called the same company for a quote, telling them that i have been driving since i was 18 in my home country (hoping i wasnt considered as a new driver) and what they told me was that "we cant insure you because you dont have any driving record in

Recently while travelling in Maine I started to pul out of the gas pumps at a public service station. A woman cut me off after quickly entering the parking lot from the street and cut across in front of me which resulted to my hitting her drivers side rear door as she came across my blind side. It appeared that she was moving faster then what would have been considered safe in a public parking lot. We mutually decided not to call the police to prevent insurance rates increases so we only exchanged names and phone numbers; no vehicle identfication or insurance information was given. After arriving home I have been informed by various friends that parking lot accidents are 50/50 for fault. We both had damage to our cars and she is claiming after one appraisal at a local body shop some 3 miles distant from her house that I should send her $1018 for damages. In addition the damage to my car is approximately $800 plus car rental during repairs. What should I do?

I live in Massachusetts. The insurance company totaled my car out and the repair estimate was around 2000. The Blue Book Value of my car is around 2500-2700. I would rather keep my car and have it repaired than get a settlement that I'm still waiting on, but I was told that because it was 100 percent at fault accident, that I have no right to ask to keep the car and get the check for repairs. Is this true? Also if I had previously 4 1/2 years of a pefectly clean driving record will that be taken into consideration on how much my insurance will go up? Thanks
