I recently just replaced my right front wheel bearing for $325. The part was around 250 and labor was about 60. I drive a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero. They said the part was so expensive because with newer cars you have to replace the practically the whole center of the tire.

This is the first time I went to this mechanic and I just want to make sure they didn't rip me off.

Well, my car is currently in the shop getting checked out for what could possibly be a blown head gasket, and if it is, this would be my second straight car in a row to die via a blown head gasket. I am no car expert, but I do know enough to always keep fluid levels topped off, and get routine maitenence when I am supposed to. I also never ignore indicator lights or other warnings. My first car this happened to had 130,000 miles on it (1994 Ford Escort) and the current car is a Saturn 1996 SL1 with about 100,100 miles on it. I have talked to other people who have had this similar death curse happen where your car is seemingly running perfectly fine one day, and then out of nowhere it just overheats and a headgasket blows......is there some type of specific maintence to make sure to do to avoid this kind of thing or do blown headgaskets sometimes "just happen" ?

I noticed what looked like a small amount of oil in the coolant container on my 1996 Lumina. Took it to the shop and the man there tells me that the head gasket has started to seep, motor has 199,000 miles on it, and that I need to consider a replacement motor. Car body and interior is in excellent condition so his suggestion makes sense. But my question is, why replace whole motor instead of doing a new head gasket?

Thanks in advance for intelligent answers.

It's not running bad at all, could it be electrical, or something serious?

I have a 2003 Audi TT which is no longer under warranty, so the dealer will charge me for service. Is it worth having the dealer do the 60K service, or am I better of going to a Audi shop?

i significantly overfilled my oil - busy talking instead of counting quarts - but i realized it quickly and didn't go very far.

lots of white smoke at low speeds and very sluggish acceleration.

i had it drained as soon as possible, and now the car appears to be running fine - no white smoke, and acceleration is back to normal. however ...

should i be on the lookout for any certain problems?
did i break something that i should get fixed right away?
if i need a repair, what should it run me?

I have 5 keys for my 05 Xterra, one is a valet key, and one of the programmed keys does not work. (ie. the car won't turn over when I try this key) The Nissan dealer says I can only have 5 keys total, and they need all the keys in order to program a new key. Is this true, and if so, how does it all work?

My car has had starting problems for a while, I have to keep the key turned for a long time for the engine to finally start. Everything sounds normal...it just doesn't start for quite a while. So I paid 650 to have the car fixed and still the same problem. What do I do? Try to get my money back? Go in and pay more?

there wasnt much damage, it was mostly in the car i was in, to the bumper. we traded info, and i'm not sure if he'll call the owner's insurance, even tho he said he'd call me first if there was damage so we could arrange something. so i am waiting for his call....

everywhere i've read online has said that most people would rather not deal with insurance companies and instead settle directly with the other person involved.

also, if he does/did call the insurance, could he still make a claim even if the person insured was not driving?

has anyone been through this or anything similar? any advice would help! thanks!

Has been dying on me lately, usually when stopped at a stop sign or traffic light.Have had it to the mechanic twice.First time they couldn't find a problem and said maybe it was vapor locked,it was very hot that day, they also suggested changing the fuel filter, which I did.Now I just had it in again because it died on me at a stop light.Again they can't find a problem, they tested the fuel pump and said it had sufficient pressure. Each time it has died it will start back up after about a half hour or so.I drive it very infrequently, should I maybe run the gas down and put new in?I haven't gotten gas in it for a few months.Any suggestions?

I will be moving to Ponca City, OK. next week and I was hoping to find an easier route than the one I found on the internet. Which said it will be over a 6 - hour drive! I also want to know if anyone knows whether or not the Tyson plant there is hiring or not ? And where is the best place to live at there ? Some place that's nice and quiet but won't break me. Thanks.
