I love them! I've had four Puntos and currently have a Cabriolet ELX and my son has the 60sx. We've never had any real problems with any of them and because Fiats don't seem to be too popular they are relatively cheap.
My sons is only the 1.0 model and is a little too weak on power for my liking. My last Punto was the 1242cc model and would have been a far better choice for my son to have learnt in. The steering can also be a little heavy on models with no p.a.s.
The ELX is a 1.6 engine and uses a lot more fuel than the smaller engined Puntos. I might even get rid of it because of this. The boot is also very small! Nice and posey though when the suns out!
But all in all it's a terrific all round car, the Punto. Good for a first car but go for the 1242 cc engine. 50mpg no problem when driven nicely and will cruise all day at 80. 4 door models cost a little more usually but it's worth the extra. And don't be afraid to get a high mileage one either, all mine have gone past 100 000 miles without any hassle! These are all the older model Puntos....M,N,R & S reg. I don't actually like the newer Mk 2 ones. Too boxy looking.

I had a punto, very economical and cheap to insure, really depends what you want the car for, if it is for practical terms then it is an ideal little city runaround and very reliable.

If you want something with a bit of va va voom then opt for something a little more racy.

good reliable little car, i used to work for a company that delivered and repaired these cars, but as with any car it depends on what suits your requirements.
