i significantly overfilled my oil - busy talking instead of counting quarts - but i realized it quickly and didn't go very far.

lots of white smoke at low speeds and very sluggish acceleration.

i had it drained as soon as possible, and now the car appears to be running fine - no white smoke, and acceleration is back to normal. however ...

should i be on the lookout for any certain problems?
did i break something that i should get fixed right away?
if i need a repair, what should it run me?

don't think you should have any problems as long as you drained it back to where it needs to be, the oil in there will be kinda dirty from the burnt oil, but burning oil's about all that will happen

Who overfilled the oil? once you've the receipt the shop who replaced your oil very last is totally to blame for any and all damages for your engine. a million.5 inches replaced into probable a 2 quart overfill. definite, it would want to were a disaster. at the same time as the crankcase is overfilled, the crankshaft counterweights beat and whip the motor oil filling *all of it with air bubbles. at the same time as the oil pump forces it to the frictional surfaces the oil severly heats up and also you get inadequate lubrication. Gaskets and seals might want to be fixed, bearing and cylinderwall damage calls for an finished overhaul of the motor. a sparkling vehicle broking might want to have not in any respect made this stupid bone-head mistake. i might want to provide 2 quarts of ice cream to carry close what shop FUBARD your motor.

Oil is blue smoke, white is coolant, and black is running too rich.
The fact that you realized it quickly (I'm sure everyone within 20 miles did too with the smoke cloud) and drained the excess you might be ok. It can blow seals and cause other problems but looks like you might be ok! She's just well lubricated for the time being!

Could have damage the rings and other things but unless your having a bad idle or weird problems don't worry about it we see this once or twice a year 9/10 times everything is fine!

As long as you realized quickly and drained off excess, you should be fine.

You're probably ok. If you'd kept driving the crank could have been in oil and foamed it up, causing all kinds of grief.
