I'm trying to do some research on home prices in our area because my husband and I are in the process of looking for our first home.

I'm getting confused by all the reports that say that the median home price is $680,000 but that the average sales price is $720,000. I would be extremely grateful to anyone who can explain to me the difference between the two.

home insurance monthly about $50. I have a car loan payment of $350. Would it be better to rent or purchase a home over the next 5 years holding period with a contract rate of 8% and assuming over the next 5 years that the rate will rise 3% annualy including utilities, maintance and taxes to also rise at the same rate. Now If i'm only going to pay interest, i came up with $87,574 this is over a 5 year period at the 8%. How far off am I ?. I for got renting would be about $1400. a month and insurance $25 plus utilities around $220. over 5yrs. to me renting would be far cheaper?

I've read that either party only needs to give thirty days notice. So if the tenant handed in written notice today, would he only have to pay approximately a half of months rent in September?

to Florida where our home is (which didnt sell) pay back my husband employer $5000 for helping us with the rent and on the top of it the landlord doesnt want to return our calls for 2 weeks now (since we let them know about us moving). We called, emailed, certified mail but no answer. We even talked with the owner of the house who is the manager sister but with no luck. She showed no interest in helping us and today we found out that she is a lawyer. What a mess! We would have liked to offer a buy out since we let them "up and dry" and they have our security deposit $1500 but we cannot get them to return our calls. On the top of everything since we moved in we found out that we have rats, we told them, they sent out Orkin who said they will come back with baits (they never did). The landlord never followed up and we made another complaint about three weeks ago with no return call or action. We have a toddler and a dog that we are concerned about. What to do?

I have been to multiple sites and looked at houses for sale. Some of the houses were as cheap as 1600 for a 4 bd 2.5 bath home. There was another for 1000.

My hubby and I are house hunting and he is tossing out any homes with electric base board heat since he feels that is going to be 2-3 times what our current ac/heatpump system costs us. Is that true? Is baseboard more costly? And will we spend a huge amount more over the summer to run window unit AC's vs the AC/Heat pump? We are skipping over some great homes because of his veiw on this issue-ugh?

We moved out 26th June this year and up until now, our landlord still hasn't returned us the money.
Thing is we sent him notice of termination of tenancy way back in June (we were on a 1-year tenancy agreement and we stayed until the 26th June when the tenancy ran out). We were good tenants, left the unfurnished flat in pristine condition and cleaner than when we moved in, and we always paid our rent on time. So we called him up at the end of July to chase up on the deposit return and he sounded real friendly on the phone and said he was truly very busy, will do it a.s.a.p. etc.
Now a month after the call and 2 months after we moved out, still no sign of the money. Is he taking the p*ss??
He is a lawyer by the way, works in an established law firm which deals with many things, including commercial property law, so we think he probably knows his way around the law and probably isn't doing anything illegal by taking so long to return the deposit. Should we wait any longer for the ££?

My family and I were victims of a home invasion where weapons were used and property was stolen and destroyed. A next door neighbor was an accessory to the crime and other neighbors witnessed the attack and did nothing to help, not even call the police. We decided to cooperate with the police and four assailants have been identified, arrest warrants issued and one has been caught. Needless to say my family and I are living in fear as retaliation is a very real possibility. Also given the the neighbor's involvment we don't feel safe on the block. For peace of mind and safety concerns we feel it would be best to move. My landlords owns many other properties & I have asked to relocated at my expense to one of those but have yet to receive a response. Under the circumstances would I have a legal right to terminate my lease once another home was secured.

We are going to be leasing a house for the next year. We found a nice house that we think would be great for us. The owner has mentioned that we could do a lease w/ an option to buy. It sounds attractive, but is there anything that I should be cautious of as a buyer?

It doesn't seem like it commits me to anything and she said she would take a portion of the rent paid and apply it to a down payment if we choose to buy. She isn't going to charge me more to do this, so would it be wise for me to do?

Also, what is typical of the amount paid that would be applied to rent?

I'm leaning toward doing it, but if anyone w/ more experience can help me I would appreciate it. Thanks

I've been accepted to graduate school in Atlanta. School starts in March and I plan to live off campus. How should I go about searching for an apartment out of state? Is now too soon to start looking? Is it possible to reserve a room now or does that depend on the landlord?

Thank you for help!
