I wouldn't do it unless I could go and visit the property and see it for myself. I've seen people buy property, sight unseen, and find out that it looks nothing like the demo lot pictured in the literature. If you can't afford to go see the place, then in my opinion, you're better off putting the money down in a horse race. At least you can see the horses.

An interesting country to choose it was popular to buy in Spain and Portugal 20 years ago.My friends are buying in Goa, Bulgaria and Turkey at the moment.
Will e-mail you when I have spoken with them to see if they know anyone who has bought in Portugal.
