Hello,

I have a quick question caused by the current subprime fall out and banks' stresses: If you do business with a brokerage house, trading stocks and bonds, etc, and the brokerage house fail, what happen to your assets? Will you lose them, or, since those are still under your name and the house could / should not touch them, they are still safe thus available to you at full value?

Thanks a lot.

28 Sept. 2007. Online bank shut down by the U.S. government. The bank's dirty little secret was excessive level of mortgage defaults. The FDIC only insures up to $100,000. $109 million of Americans money was not insured and is lost. Hope your money is not in this bank. Who will be next to go? Are you sure your bank is safe or does it have dirty little secrets of it's own.

This is a hypothetical situation. I had a dream about coming into a great deal of money unexpectedly and I was not sure what was the right thing to do. For the sake of argument we will assume the money is a gift and is not the source of ill gotten gain or from any illegal or improper source. Is there a legal way to invest this to minimize the chunk that the US government would take out of it for taxes?

can I give any bank my change (quarters, dimes, nickes, pennies), and get paper bill money instead? Do you need a bank account at the location to do so? Or can I just waltz into any bank, dump my change on them, and get bills instead?

I am considering investing in an ATM business, but I wonder if the need for ATMs and cash is diminishing as the use of credit and debit cards is increasing.

I had a seizure in school last year and was hospitalized. I repeatedly told the doctors that all tests had been done in the past and no explanation for these seizures had ever been found but they repeated all these expensive tests from expensive specialists again anyway. I further explained that I am a student with no income and could not afford to stay in the hospital at all but they kept me anyway. Now I am receiving harassing phone calls and threats of legal action. I'm still an unemployed full time student. I refuse to deal with debt collectors and my intention is to pay these doctors when I do graduate and find employment. Of course, as I told them, they were not ablt to find causes for my seizures.

I live in Iowa. I sold a car and a stove for $250. She paid me with a check that I deposited into my bank the following Monday. (She paid me on Saturday) It took nearly 2 weeks for the check to come back to my account as a Charge-Back - reason NSF. I called my bank for advice. I then took their advice and called HER bank to see if I could bring the check in to cash. No luck, not enough funds in her account.
After she finally returned my calls later that day, she told me that she would come to my house immediately following work on Friday (her payday) and pay me the cash. I know that Iowa law provides that you can recover up to 300% of the check amount, but under what circumstances? Should I just take the check to the police station? Or to the County Attorney? Will I be able to recover my property and the money? Or just either/or?
Any advice is GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks in advance.
