I am considering investing in an ATM business, but I wonder if the need for ATMs and cash is diminishing as the use of credit and debit cards is increasing.

I tend to avoid private label ATM's because the service charges are too high.

I'll use my bank's ATM for the majority of my withdrawls. I'm not hit with a service charge when I use them.

The number of transactions per ATM is dropping as is the growth rate in ATM deployments. This is not to say that an investment in an “ATM company” is a necessarily bad idea. They are finding new ways to generate revenue.

But, I strongly encourage you not to consider opinions expressed in this forum, when evaluating the growth options of a company. I’m sure everyone answering means well. But not knowing the name of the firm, none of us can evaluate the current price versus the firms risks and growth options. Someone else suggested a CD. That’s not a bad idea. Or, you could put the money in a S&P 500 index fund without having to evaluate the value of any of the individual companies.

You can get 5% + from a CD. Will an ATM investment guarantee that amount ? Yes I use ATM all the time at my own bank, after hrs check depositing , etc.

I use them once or twice a year to get cash but
I ONLY use my bank ATM because I am too cheap to pay fees .
( did pay them once about 12 years ago , but not since )

Otherwise I pay for everything with my cash back credit cards ,
I make about $500 extra a year that way .
( and I am too cheap to pay % on C C too )

I'd guess about 95% of the world's population uses ATM. It's a quick way to grab cash.

They are diminishing, I know that I almost never use a non-bank ATM that charges me a fee.

i think that would be a good investment. People like to get their own money off their card their self with all this identity thief going around. I think it would be a good choice.
