The agency that had the loan started garnishing my wages in 2004 despite the fact I informed them it wasn't my signature on the loan. I filed an affadavit of forgery, sent them copies of my signatures and filed a police report. The police indicated they would not arrest because it happened in 1992 and I filed a report in 2006. What are my options and I am legally held to this loan. The loan is a student college loan for her daughter, my step daughter.

We have 2 loans for our 2 vehicles (1998 Ford Ranger Truck & 2002 Dodge Caravan). Both loans have alot of other things rolled into them and they both total around $30,000. Our cars obviously are not worth the total of the loans. They said that if we cant come up with the $2500 to bring them current we would have to give them back. We just relocated out of state from MI to SC. Any advice?? Yes they have our new address (woman I spoke to said we could work something out so I stupidly gave it to her). What about chapter 13? Should we sell them and give the credit union the cash and try to get other vehicles? I currently have 3 books on how to fix your credit so if we could do this as softly on our credit as possible thats the way we want to go. ANY advice would be appreciated.

In August, I rented a trailer from the U-Haul store on Marginal Way. My mother had let me use her credit card to secure the transaction (you can’t rent one without a credit card, or so I was told). The contract was in my name only. I had the trailer for a day. I returned it, and the transaction was charged to my mother’s credit card (as previously arranged with my mother). My husband then rented a truck. The contract was in his name only. He had asked if they could secure the truck with the credit card previously used. They said, no, because the numbers are not kept on file. They stated that they would, in fact, secure the transaction with a cash deposit of $100. Had we known this from the beginning, we would have used cash for the trailer as well.

So we rented the truck, with the intention of only having it for a day. It turned out we need it for four. We called and explained this to the manager, and returned his calls when he called our cell phones, because he was not happy. I empathized, but I needed the truck to move. We brought the truck back on Friday, August 24, at 7:45 PM. The store was closed (the sign said it closed at 8:00), so we left the truck.

We had moved all of our stuff into storage, because we hadn’t yet closed on our house. When we finally did (four weeks later), my mother received a credit card statement. I had completely numbed it about paying U-haul, because I was so wrapped up in the house-buying process. U-Haul had charged her card $478.82 for the truck rental. I called the store, asked them to refund her card the charge, as they were not authorized to use her card for that transaction. I explained that, when this was done, I would pay for the transaction. The manager refused, told me I just needed to pay my bills, called me a liar. It was a lovely conversation.

Here is my question: The card was attached to the contract in my name. Did U-haul have the right to use that credit card to cover a contract in someone else’s name, regardless of our relationship? For all he knew, we could be divorcing. Does this amount to credit card fraud? And, do I have the right to ask them to refund my mother before I will pay a dime?

According to the FCRA, section 605(c) runnin gof reporting time, it states that, "In general. The 7-year period referred to in paragraphs (4) and (6) of subsection
(a) shall begin, with respect to any delinquent account that is placed for collection
(internally or by referral to a third party, whichever is earlier), charged to profit and
loss, or subjected to any similar action, upon the expiration of the 180-day period
beginning on the date of the commencement of the delinquency which immediately
preceded the collection activity, charge to profit and loss, or similar action."
My question is: What about a bill ( medical services from 10/28/2002-12/18/02) that was NEVER paid on, has NOT been sent to collections. When would the SOL have started on this(since there has never been a payment on this account) Would it be the last date of service-12/18/02? If my state of NY is 6 years, does it mean that they have until 2008 to try to collect payment? Thanks!

I was looking into getting a secured credit card, meaning- I prepay for whatever I will be able to spend; so why is it that they have annual percentage rates for a card that doesn't even use their money? The definition of an interest rate is how much the borrower will pay on a LOAN- as this is no loan, I don't understand how this can be applied here?

I have some old bills on my credit report I'm trying to take care of.
None of the bills are interest gaining. 1 old utility bill an insurance bill and a couple of medical bills. I am trying to get all of them paid off a soon as I can. Should I pay one off before the others?

Newer bills before older bills dates are ranging from 2003 - 2005 its not a lot of money that I owe only about $700 in all.

Once these are paid what would be the best way to start building my currently poor credit. I have never had a credit card or any type of loan what so ever . Only derogatory bills.

Thanks for your advice.

This question is targeted towards students, but anyone is welcome to answer. Do you always make full credit card payment? Ofcourse, everyone probably makes at least the minimum payment due. But how often are you not able to make full credit card payment -- 50% of the time, 70% of the time, 90% of the time or very few or some other estimate. Give an answer that relates to your situation.

I am almost $4000 behind in my credit card dues but i do pay at least 5 to 6 times more than minimum due. I checked my credit score and it was 711, but i hate to pay finance charges so i was curious to know other students' situation with credit card dues.

I got stuck with a bill for $600 from a CAT scan that my insurance company decided to make me apply my deductable against. I recently lost my job and I talked to the hospital about trying to structure payment on a payment plan. They wanted me to pay $45 and I asked if I could pay less than that to stretch out the payments over a longer period of time. The person at the hospital said that if I pay less, then "the computer would kick my account to collections." When I told my wife, she said that hospitals and doctors can't send your account to a collections agency as long as you are making a good faith effort to pay the bill. Something similar happened to her a few years back for a similar amount and was able to pay far less than that amount on a monthly basis. Anyone have any ideas on this or any experience?
