I have about a mid 500 credit score. I know, pretty bad.

I've heard that after 7 - 10 years, if no agreements to make any payments on my part, that things start falling off. The Statute of Limitations for my home state of record is 5-10 years, depending on the type of contract. The S.O.L. for the State I'll be moving to in a few months is much shorter.

Bankruptsy isn't an option, I'm overseas right now. Even then, now you have to make some kind of payment plan with bankruptsy. Well, I'm about 5 years into it all. If I make some kind of payment plan, I'd be restarting those years again.

Anyway, one thing I've noticed is that the creditors re-sell my debt. Do the "years" restart when they do that?

How do I figure out the date by which the "7-10 years" begins from?

Also, because I'm moving back to the States, but not to my home state, which State do I fall under for Statute of Limitations? Home state is where the bills were incurred.

They closed the account because I missed three payments. I had lost a job and couldn't make them at that time. I am fine now, and the account has been in good standing for over a year at this point. It is one of my oldest accounts, so I want to reopen it to help my credit score. In addition, I still have a balance of $1,000 which I planned on paying off by the end of June...if not sooner. The interest rate is rediculous, so I want it lowered...as soon as possible. Is this a possible request and if so do I call customer service and hope they get me in touch with the appropriate people. What do I ask them and does it make a difference if I tell them I will be paying the card off in a month?

I charged a family members credit card about 15 grand wihtout his knowldege. I lived in New JErsey. He did not want to be responisble for this charge . HE reported incident to police . I guess it is now conisdered identity theft. THe credit card company refunded teh meony back to card and closed account he never has to pay for it. Now teh police know who made teh unauthorized charges. Meanwhile i moved to europe so i woudnt be questioned cause im assuming i would go to jail for this as i used another persons card to make charges wihtout authorization. Is it ever possible for me to come back into the US? Lets say 10 years from now. And im pretty sure that The police are not goin gto come after me in europe if im not mistaken for a 15 thousand dollar charge that was paid off by credit card insurance company.

This debt is 10 yrs old, so it is past the statute of limitations. It is not on my credit report, yet I wish the phone calls would just stop. Is there a way to do this, or sue them to stop?

I have a 200.00 19 yr old debt which they are saying is now 1,385.17. When I checked my credit report it stated that the company had written it off long ago. Using my parents address a collection agency contacted me yet again. Can anyone tell me why this keeps surfacing and how I can get it to stop? Do I have to pay 1,300 plus for a 200. debt? And like I said I stated above, it was 19 yrs ago.

Hi. I am 20 years old now. When i was I believe 11 or so I got a magazine in the mail called fingerhut. and i went through and i ordered a lot of stuff. like 800 worth of stuff and i received every bit of it. well i did not know anything about it after that until i tried to get a verizon contract and they said that my credit was bad. and i requested a copy and it was on there. how can that be if i was 11 years old? I had some people from the collection agency contact me about 2 months ago and i told them about it and they told me that i cant do anything about it. but also on my report it says on record until august 2007 does that mean after that month its off or what? i just dont know what to do about that. please someone help me.

I need help!!! I'm 25 years old and have only held 2 credit cards in my posession that I always pay over the minimum amount or completely if possible and a student loan that in deferment till December which i plan to pay consistently and on time, BUT 20+ open accounts under my name on my credit because my mom's credit was so bad she couldn't get anything so she convinced me that opening and using ALL of the offers I got through the mail would help build mine, BUT now I have so much open credit it's ridiculous almost all the cards are maxed out some over the limit. Granted they're paid by her every month on time BUT I CAN'T GET ANYTHING!!! I have all this debt and I've never even used these accounts!!! What can I do? There in my name but I don't pay on them and I definitely have never used them. This is so unfair!!! MY MOM RUINED MY CREDIT and I'm responsible!

I was contacted by Verizon 2 days ago about an outstanding 10 year old telephone bill. Verizon bought GTL recently. I moved from VA to MA ten years ago and am pretty sure I closed the account (10 years ago). This bill is for 1997 I moved to Mass in Dec 1996. My wife called the number on the letter and they were not willing to listen. They just wanted our credit card number? Can they really do that? After 11 years do they have the right. I am pretty sure I paid it in fact I was a Verizon customer untill recently. What are my options?
