When a creditor charges off a debt, and they tell you that they have no more dealings with it. Told me that they could not pull it out of collections and settle with me.
Can this debt go back to the creditor and they will sue?

I had a money order sent to me in march of this year (but I never received it). The person sending me the check, had to give me cash money since I never got the money order check. And now after months of not receiving the check, it shows up written out to me. Do I cash the check and give the sender the cash money since the check was made out to me. Or do I give the person the money check that finally arrived. I am sure a stopped payment should have been in the making.

Here’s the situation:
Last June (2006) my Husband and I went to our Lawyer and said we wanted to file bankruptcy. We started the process then (June 2006), and the lawyer told us to stop paying ALL of the things we were filing on…so we did. It has been a year now, and we had run into a few problems along the way and our case is STILL NOT filed with the courts. It is to be filed this month.

My Husband has gotten a better job and now we want to do a debt consolidation INSTEAD of filing for the bankruptcy.

My Questions:
1. Can we still do a debt consolidation after not making any payments to the creditors for a year?
2. How long after the consolidation will it take for our credit scores to go up?
3. How long after the consolidation should it take to get approved for a mortgage?

Thanks!!

I went to the bank the other day to deposit some money. I have bills due soon. I don't have the money on me now, but my friend owes me some money - he even gave me a signed IOU on a napkin. I tried to tell the bank teller this, and offered to give her the IOU, but that dirty teller wouldn't deposit my money.

I have to buy some one-touch can openers, but I need to deposit the money. I can't be the only one with this problem. What have you done in this situation?

My friend's good for the money. Sheesh.

My boyfriend has a collection agency calling him at least 3 times a day. I know in our state (PA) it is harassment to call constantly to annoy the person. They also leave messages that don't say who they are just "a person at this number has a buisness matter to attend to please call ***-***-****." I have heard that they must identify themselves when they call. Is that true? If he had the money he would pay this debt off. Its 6 years old, wont it become uncollectable soon?

So, my husband has a lying problem. I catch him lies concerning money alot. I am pregnant, have a 6 year old son with him and love him . He lost his job in March.
The other day i realized there was a chargeback in our joint checking account. Meaning that he cashed a check , which i later found out was a CApital ONe check, and there was no funds on the card to cover it, so now we owe the bank that money plus a fee.... I asked him about it, and he says he has no idea. It must be a mistake. Maybe his dad did it on accident since he is on the account too.... So he says he'll take care of it. Well it's been a week and he still hasn't taken care of it. So i call the bank , found out it was him using a CC check...... So i am like, Why didnt he just tell me the truth? What did he do with the 500.00? I log into the CC acct. and all along he's had the CC too and used all the money. He told me he never got the CC That 's why the check was returned. I know we'll fight if I say something. Help

I am 22 with about $2200 in credit card debt with no real secure source of good income. I just barely get by without having to pay this bill, but I think I could afford to make low monthly payments. I keep getting phone calls from these collection firms saying that they have “purchased” my debt and now I owe them and not the original bank which issued me the credit card. The collectors have even called my parents house telling them that I had a financial emergency that needed to be taken care of and told my family that they were my bank as to get my cell number. I know this is a common practice but I am stuck dealing with people who are demanding things from me. I know I got myself into this and I need to get myself out, but could I start working with my bank instead of these harassing debt collectors. It’s been about a year since I last made a payment, is it to late to ask my bank if I can start paying them? Also, how should I negotiate my debt with these people?
