I had a money order sent to me in march of this year (but I never received it). The person sending me the check, had to give me cash money since I never got the money order check. And now after months of not receiving the check, it shows up written out to me. Do I cash the check and give the sender the cash money since the check was made out to me. Or do I give the person the money check that finally arrived. I am sure a stopped payment should have been in the making.

DO NOT REFUND THE CASH UNTIL YOU KNOW IF THE MONEY ORDER CLEARS!!!!! That is a HUGE fraud scam (Yours may not be) and some people dont realize that cashiers checks, money orders ect can come back form the bank as cancelled/stolen ect..... I would say your best bet is to contact who ever gave you the check and give it back to them --- Keep the cash payment.

Generally allowing 10 days on a check is enough time, however, in my experience it take a LONG time for money orders & cashiers checks to come back from the bank --- even months.
DONT RISK IT unless this is a customer you know and trust very well.

first you say money order then you say check, 2 different things. if it's a money order you can cash it and give the person their money back, if it's a check just give it back to the person.

call them and ask if they ever stop-payed it.. if they did, you can shred it because they will have gotten the money back from it.. if not, you might want to give the money order back to them so they can go back to the place they bought it and tell them that they need the cash back..

Return it to the person who sent it to you.
