My credit scores range from 648 with Equifax to 676 at Experian. TransUnion in the middle. Can anyone explain the difference and which agency is the most accurate or trusted?

I have sent a validation letter to a CA. I have not heard anything back yet. How can you find out if a CA is licensed to collect in your state? I looked on ncodi, but all I could find on this specific agency was Status: Inactive. What does this mean. Does anyone know this? the agency is in NY and I am in NC. They treatened on my machine to send it to a law firm which is located in GA. (this was before I sent the validation letter).

I opened a credit card account and somehow missed the small print, where they said there was a $39.00 activation fee and a $60 annual fee. I realized my mistake when they sent me my card, so I didn't activate it, hoping I could close the account before using the card, and thus avoid the fees. But they charged me the fees anyway - now I owe $100, and I haven't used the card once! Is that legal?

A friend of mine recently paid hers off well but has had nothing but trouble from one particular company. The company is telling her that she's behind on payments yet her balance is 0.00. They've even reported it to the credit bureaus. How can this be? I don't want to have any trouble with mine. Do I need to take any extra steps now that the card is paid?

Can her bill collectors garnish her husband's wages? They will have no food money then or clothes and stuff. He didn't do this and he can't handle paying all of it back no matter how the budget is budgeted!! Some have suggested Consumer credit but it just won't help. They are OUT OF MONEY!!!!!! I have been talking about this for over a week. I don't see anything else for them to do? Consumer Credit is just going to make payments that they can't make. Bankruptcy has to be better than suicide that he is hollering. She can't work so don't even point the finger at her. she has had an accident and lost her arm.

that took place in 2003? I co-signed for a car and it got repoed a month before the owner died (4-28-03). The owner didn't have an estate. I don't remember getting anything about the car being repoed or sold, I thought that I should have atleast been notified. Now I'm getting calls and letters over this and don't have any money to pay this off. I take care of 2 handicapped brothers now and the only income I have is SSI which I can't use to pay this debt off because its their money and I cant work because I take care of them 24/7. I was just wondering what would happen if I went to court or when would they decide to take legal action against me. Also, I worked when I cosigned for this loan than something happened and I got custody of my brothers and had to quit my job to take care of them.

I want to buy a house so I am working on repairing my credit. Due to death of child's father and job lay off my credit suffered to the point where my scores were in the 300s. Over the last 1 1/2 years I have brought them up to very low 500s. The mortage company said I should get two credit cards and rebuild a payment history so my scores will increase. How can I get these cards if no one will give me credit? Are there any credit / department stores that give credit to very poor credit score holders? I don't want to pay horrible fees and such.

I've got two credit cards that are maxed out and can't seem to make ANY progress by paying the minimum payment when I can. It's to the point now where I'll go a month without paying them and I just start racking up bullsh*t fees which put me even further into debt. I need to get help with this and I heard you can do debt consolidation through a credit union. I'm wondering if anyone here has done this and what their experience has been?

Will it drastically effect my credit score? Do I have to have an account at the credit union to do this?

I have a friend in FL that is filing bankruptcy. I thought they passes a law a few years ago that stated you could not include credit card debt in bk. Is that true? They are telling me that you can include credit card debt.

I had a "fraud alert" placed on my credit report with all three reporting agencies, a good while back. They state I can get a free credit report (in addition to previous reports, apparently...simply because of the fraud alert)...within 90 days of receiving a letter I got from each of the reporting agencies. Which agency is 'the best' of all three; Equifax, Experian or TransUnion? Thanks. Equifax certainly seems to be the most popular, with Experian coming second. Is there a reason for that in general, or just the whole "well-known company" thing?
