A friend of mine recently paid hers off well but has had nothing but trouble from one particular company. The company is telling her that she's behind on payments yet her balance is 0.00. They've even reported it to the credit bureaus. How can this be? I don't want to have any trouble with mine. Do I need to take any extra steps now that the card is paid?

if the debt was pad directly to the lender ( did not go into an outside collection agency) then they should have the payment in the system which would show its been paid in full, how ever if she paid thru a collection agency they usually require that you wait 30 days after the payment was made to report to the credit bureaus. so u should just wait 30 days for what is called a letter of release that would be sent to ur house indicating that the account has been paid in full and with this proof u can send to the bureaus so that her info could be updated. i recently paid off my debt by disputing it online and did not have a problem with them updating my credit report.

Normally, all you have to do is pay your balance in full.

My guess is the computer at your friend's company charged her $0.003 interest the last month she had a balance. That would round off to $0.00 on her statement, but the computer still thinks she owes $0.003. She could try mailing them a money order for $0.10 with a note complaining about the situation and DEMANDING a receipt.. At worst she is out the cost of the money order and a stamp. At best, it will inconvenience someone enough to fix the problem.

Be sure that you don't have any residual interest that is owed. Even though you paid the balance in April, there is probably still some interest that was accrued in April that will be billed to you in May. So you will still have 1 more (probably small) payment to make.

It may be that your friend still owed residual interest, but since thought she paid the card off, she ignored the bills that the company sent her, and only thinks her balance is $0.00

Call your company. When I finished paying off all my credit cards. I called each and every one of them. Cause of today's problem with identiy theft, I figured I better call in to cancel them all. That's a percaution that I took. I also kep my last statement of each credit card in case in the future they come up to me.
If your balance shows o.oo, go to the internet, type in the name of your credit card company, type in the statement number and here you can follow up what
s happening in your record. Hope this helps.

You should never have this type of problem, but sometimes it happens. If you have problems call the customer service desk and ask them why.
