i just fell out with my girlfriend of a month. my girlfriend is american and she wanted me to send some money to her uncle in nebraska of the usa. her uncle means alot to her and he is a diabetic and needs to go into hospital. the problem is! i phoned the bank this morning and they said i have a fixed account, which is true. you see i was scammed back in september and they toke about £5000 and my girlfriend doesn't believe me. last night i was telling her, that i didn't know what a fixed account is. i did ask the bank about this and they said a fixed account, is an account that is tied to certain terms. i have a two year agreement with my bank and my money can only be used for emergencies. did i say the wrong thing to her. the main thing is! i can only access my money, when i really need it. i have a credit card, so i can still take small amounts from the cashpoint. my girlfriend has said she don't trust me and i keep on giving her stories. she is true! i have only known for a few week

This is just a sampling of H & R Blocks predatory lending scheme...Capital One and Wachovia both do this all the time to their customers - unfortunately, there are no laws to stop them either....

Although RALs are offered by legit businesses, the loan terms rival those of the neighborhood loan shark. Small fees ($30 here, $59 there) add up. On the average refund this year ($2,150), forking over $100 to cover loan costs puts your effective APR at 178%. (No, that's not a typo.) Add in admin fees and you're looking at a 235% APR. (Again, not a typo.)

I would prefer answers from people who work in the credit industry and can tell me roughly the number of points, and how long it will take for my score to recover once the new higher available credit kicks in...

I know part of your credit score is determined by how much available credit you have. I closed several cards a few years back before I knew it would hurt my score, and now I have very little credit available. I have excellent credit otherwise, and pay off anything I charge the next month. However, I do have a balance I've been slowly paying down, and want to open a new card so that my balance takes up less of a proportion to my total credit debt.

How much will this ding my credit in the short term? And how long will the point drop last?

What effect will it have if I get a debt consolidation loan. I am not in any financial trouble but I am tired of just paying multiple collectors each month. Will this have any effect on my credit score or cause any problem in the future when I try to purchase a home. I have hear that it can cause problems like that and can make it difficult to get a home loan.....Does anyone have any personal experiences with doing this??

Here are the details:

I'll admit, I was quite deliquent in paying my balance of 169 bucks for a few months. This balance was hanging over my head forever and late fees were accumulating, and my credit score was suffering because of that one frickin payment....

So, when I had the extra cash and paid off the $169 balance, I closed the account.

OK,

So, why, unexpectedly, does a check for 169 bucks show up in my mailbox today?? All this time, this balance has been hanging over me and eating my credit score, and now they send it back to me as a refund??? I don't get it.

Can someone explain this to me please???
