I don't accept them dern things.All I can see they good fer is a picking the tabackee out tween your teeth. Just give me that good gold or silver coin.

Some merchants do not accept American Express cards due to the high percentage they have to pay.
American Express charges 6% of the total transactions, while Visa/Mastercard charges 3%.

American Express is not excepted everywhere... especially at a lot of smaller businesses. The fees they charge are just too high for a lot of businesses to support carrying them.
The widest excepted cards are Visa, followed closely by Mastercard.

Not all businesses accept all credit cards. American Express isn't taken everywhere.

I've never seen a place where it WASN'T accepted. There are probably smaller stores or whatever that don't accept credit cards at all. You could also purchase travelers checks if you are in doubt. Depends where you are going.

Maybe can be accepted averywhere in the US, but outside of the country is not that easy. I live in a major Mexican city and normally you don't have any problem but is smaller cities is almost imposible, same thing happen in the rest of latin america and in europe.

No. Alot of smaller businesses do not accept it because they charge higher rates to the merchents.
Nearly all larger businesses will accept it though.

No. If a store does not accept the Amex card, they will not accept an Amex gift card.
