A co-worker of mine referred me to a paralegal that has helped a few of her friends and cousins get through bankruptcy. He is only going to charge me $600 (as opposed to up to $1700 with a lawer) and literally walk me through it. I guess the word "paralegal" is worrying me a little because he is not a lawyer but does anyone else have any experience with a paralegal and bankruptcy?

I recently applied for a loan on "Lending Tree" and was denied a loan from any bank. Despite the fact that I have a 740+ FICO and
have been gainfully self-employed for 7 years, not to mention I have taken over the business of the shop for the last 2 years.

I have a small debt and have paid 1/3 of a car loan, other then that I still at least 1500 dollars left available to apply towords a mortgage payment?

What gives, this is discrimination against the self-employed !

Ok so few years back I tried to help a someone out by moving out of my apt. (left lease under my name) and letting them stay and they would pay the rent..I ended up getting screwed and was left with $6,000 of unpaid rent...I am paying this debt the best I could..I settled with the attorneys for $5,000..which I will pay 1,000 a month... since I neglected to pay a month late but only paid $1000 (suppose to be 2,000) they said I defaulted so they jacked up the amount back to its origianl amount which is $6,000 plus court cost..(they have a judgement against me)..I have already paid $4,000 so I sent in a payment of $230 last week (so now I paid a total of $4230.00)..so the girl from the attorneys office called my office..we got your $230.00 where is your thousand dollars I responded I dont have a thousand dollars..can we lower the amount that I have to pay..no she said..then we will proceed..what the heck does that mean..we will proceed..

I have a bill that I was fighting and refusing to pay because of a unfair charge. It wasn't a big bill but.. it went to a collection agency.
This agency has been a pain in the butt, calling weekly etc.. I explained that I dispute the debt, and that I would correct this bill with the company that I owe the money to. They are saying that I can't, that the debt is now owed to them. Is this true?

I have just a little over $20,000 in credit card debt. Its about 5 different credit cards and I havent paid them in 4-7 months. Some are in collections already and I have received a letter from an attorney. I called a few consolidation places, and debt settlement places but they want a payment of $500 a month and there is no way I can afford that. Does anyone know what I can do?

I desperately need some advice.
before my husband and i got married, he had a credit card which was paid off by the time we got married. (this was 10 years ago!!). he never closed the account though because somebody told him it was always good to have credit open for good credit scores. last week he gets a letter that he needs to go to a superior court. we have no idea what it's for, so he contacts his friend which is a lawyer. apparently, there was a 6000 charge on that open account FROM YEARS AGO. we moved a couple of times so supposedely they tried to contact my husband but was nowhere to be found. now he is expected to pay this 6000 for something we never bought!!! the lawyer will call the credit card company today to see if they will take less. but my point is WHY do WE have to pay for a fraud?? anybody been in this situation before? they did verify with my husband it is his name and ss#.. what can we do?? please help with any useful advice.. thank you!! :(

I am working with a collection agency to settle a debt. I agreed to two payments. Before I send the final payment, what should I write on the check? "Paid in full," "payment 2 of 2 for settlement of account 12345," or is there some other legal statement that I can use to show the agreed upon amount was paid in full to settle the debt?
