I had the card because my mother had ask me to do business for her when she couldn't and/or didn't fell up to it. She died last year and when I enformed the credit card company, they told me to send them proof, which I did immediately. They called me and wanted me to pay the balance. I refused. They now have it on my cedit report. Am I by law forced to pay this? If not, how can I get them to take it off my record?

Hey, I need a little advice from soneone who has been in a similar situation.
I recently discovered we had an old credit card that had not been paid off, and the account has been adding interest for 5 years. When the account went delinquent, it had a balalnce of $5,000, and has now grown to $13,000.
I guess that's what happens when youdon't check your credit report!
Anyway, the card is in my wife's name only, and I am looking at calling the collection agency and settling the debt, probably for around 6 or 7K I would imagine.
My question, however, is what happens if I don't pay it at all? I mean, I know it would fall off my wife's credit report, but that doesn't stop collection actions and or garnishment, does it?
I realize it would continue to kill my wife's credit, but does it do anything to mine? Can they garnish MY wages, as her husband?
Any help in answering this question would be greatly appreciated. I will likely call and settle the debt, but want to know if this is d best approa

I just called Searscard.com and asked about lowering my interest rate. The woman told me "no one in or out of the company negotiates rate reductions." What the heck does that mean??? To me it means "sorry, you're stuck, sucka!"

Our company owes a creditor $ most of which are disputed pending proof of delivery. They turned it over to an "attorney" collection agency that calls the owner at home and threatens law suits that will cost home tons of $. She now says we have to send her post dated checks and pay her $5K fee. Can we refuse to work with the collection agency or how do we get out of dealing with them until we get this resolved.

I am attempting to build my credit. Let me know if this method is OK, or if you recommend something else:

I pay recurring charges (cell phone bill, hosting fees, electric bill, etc) with my credit card - then pay off my credit card bill with my debit card/checking account. I have the money to pay off the recurring bills when they arrive, but thought if a credit card is used (rather than a debit card) it would at least show credit activity.

Is this an OK method to building credit?

Another thing: I am going to take out a secured loan from a bank in the amount of $3500. I already have a CD in that amount, and will use the CD to secure the loan. Once I have the $3500 from the bank, I will hold it (not spend it) and pay it back to the bank in small increments to build a solid rapport with them. Has anyone tried similar?

Thanks

They say I cannot pay on the charge offs because they have no record of what I owe them but they cannot update or remove them. That doesnt seem fair. They are listed on my credit report but yet if they have no way to look it up they should be able to take it off right?

If you have a credit card maxed out at 10k dollars, would it be best to get a loan, pay it off and close the account then pay off the loan? Or pay off the credit card? Only reason im asking is because if she keeps the credit card with that money on it .. she won't "just pay it back" she will keep using it lol .. any advice on what to do?

About 3 years ago I got a $10,000 loan from a Credit Union to get rid of some debt and money for me and my wife to move out of state. I paid it every month till it got down to about $7,000. Then I lost my job and my wife was not working. I don't make as much now and about a year later the Credit Union contacted me and said I needed to get 900 dollars by the next day or they would turn my loan over to a Collection Agency. They actually turned it over to a lawyer nd he called me a few times and told me I needed to drive down and see him. Then he sent me a few letters and stuff. And finally when I didn't show up he sent a Sheriff To my house with a summons to apear in his office. I did not go and I called him and told him I would be moving again this time to Texas. He said that the bank would just turn the loan over to someone there. I'm in NY now and have not heard one thing about the loan at all Not one letter or phone call. Did they give up? I've heard that after so many years they do.

I am about $20,000 in debt. I lost my job in September and still haven't found one. I advised my spouse to pay the things that we needed to pay and to keep his credit A++. The credit card debt is in my name only, we have a house together, and a vehicle. Is there any way that I can file and leave him out of it?
I want to pay my debt off. I believe that's Chapter 13?? I just need a payment amount I can afford, and get every body off my back. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I want a mastercard and/or visa that will pay me better than 1% cash back on every purchase, not just for a limited intro time but permanently and everywhere, not just certain locations. Are they're any cards like or close to this? and I do not want any card that doesn't allow you to get cold hard cash as your reward.
