I just finished paying off some credit card debts I had for a year or two (I'm 22).

In the next couple of years I'd like to get an apartment, a loan and a new car.

What's the best thing I can do right now so that my credit is excellent when I want to do these things?

I'd really prefer NOT to have a credit card at all, but is that my only way?

Thanks!

I have a collection agency harassing me and have been told I can report them. First of all, I would not be returning their phone calls if I had no intention on paying them. But they want my checking account numbers before I even have a statement. They said they have sent me two and I stated I did not receive them. THey flat out called me a liar and asked me if I knew how to check my mail box! Then I told them I could pay them next month, they offered me a monthly payment option for three months. Then they asked if I could pay it all. I said I was offered a 3 month settlement and they called me a liar stating they recorded me saying I would pay it all in December, full amount. I was actually called a liar by their supervisor! I was so upset I was in tears. Why would I call them back and try to work something out if I had no intention on paying. They say I am avoiding my responsibilities and have no intention on paying. I feel they need to be reported and wonder how I go about doing this

We are hoping to get a loan for a max amt of $30,000. We want to pay it of in 5 years or less. What are the odds we'll be able to do that w/o getting ripped off? Oh, we're military too...if that helps. Any advice would be great! Thanks!

Although I've read that it's against credit card company rules for merchants to use a minimum purchase amount, I was wondering if there was "etiquette" for using cards.

When I was young I was taught not to use a credit card if the purchase was below 20 dollars, and that you should use cash for something less than 20 dollars. Not because of the credit card fees that a merchant has to pay, but that it was rude.

Anyone else ever taught this? If merchants don't ask for a minimum, is there a standard? Or were my parents just strange?

trying to establish good credit is hard when no one will give you a credit card.I have one secured card I use with perfect payment history and no other open accounts. I have paid off all past collections on my report and scores are low to mid 500's. I cannot get approved for a credit card anywhere! Any ideas?

I am about $10,000 in debt, both credit cards and medical bills. I think I have a total of about 6 or 7 credit cards. I am a college student who makes less than $2,500 a year. It's really hard for me to find a job and the job I have is just a work study job on campus. I have collection companies threatening to sue me for my debts. I am currently paying a collection company but there's no way I can pay them all. I only make like $250 a month and I send pretty much all of that off to bills. What will happen if I don't pay these creditors and their collectors? What should I do?

I will appreciate any advice. I am very desperate for help!

A relative came and stayed at our home for a few days. They had access to our home when we were at work and so they could have easily gotten all of our information. Now I find that they have stolen from other relatives and committed identity theft in the past! Is there anything we can do to protect ourselves from accounts being opened or loans made in our name?

I filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy around January 2005 and was discharged somewhere around March or April 2005. I have been getting credit card offers ever since. I think I remember my attorney saying that it would be ok to get a credit card after a year or so after me being discharged. I don't even know if a credit card company would approve me and if they did they'd probably have me pay the $200-$300 or whatever amount it is. I've lived without credit cards for over 2 years and if I got one it would be for emergencies only. Any advice please.

I transferred out of state 1 1/2 years ago with my job. I had no time to sell it and now it is scheduled for foreclosure. One option the mortgage company gave me was to list it with a realtor or give it back to them. If I give the house back to the lenders, how does that show up on my credit? How does it affect my score? And how hard will it be for me to purchase a home in my new state?

They won't let me make payment arrangements since I'm not occupying the house and I can't afford to pay in full $15,000 they're asking.

Are there any courses for certification or any professional designation for credit experts, debt counseling, FICO score interpretation and improvement, etc...etc...etc...???

I've searched online and have only come up with FICO in regards to technology and accounting programs...

My goal is to have a total understanding of how FICO is calculated and to what extent different financial moves impact your credit score...
