Please contact the local bar association for a referral to a bankruptcy attorney. Consult with that attorney for accurate answers to your questions.

in your situation bankruptcy will be the best option although many judges will ask that you seek out an appropriate certified debt management company. i don't know what state you live in but http://www.fdnsolutions.com can help people to avoid bankruptcy if they qualify. settlement is a way to have the creditor get something rather than nothing and help to eliminate your debt without the negative recourse of the bk.

usually if you are considering filing bankruptcy your credit is already very bad so filing may actually help your credit. Yes it does eliminate some credit opportunities but I would contact an attorney and have him explain the various alternatives available to you.

Just contact your local bankruptcy lawyer and ask what your options are. That's really all you can do. Best of Luck!
