My boss hired a cousin to work at her business and this cousin basically only works when she wants to because she is on Salary. She will come in around 10:00 and leave at 3:30 or 4:00. She started in Sept. and has already missed like 12 days. 4 of those days she didn't even call to tell us she wasn't coming in. Then the whole time she is at work she is just complaining about something in her life and it's all about drama with her. I am sure my boss sees it but she hasn't said anything to her cousin to change the situation. At first I was going to let my boss figure it out on her own but now other employees are making comments and I feel as a manager it is my duty to tell my boss what's going on as far as it bothering other employees. I know that it is going to upset my boss because evidently she is wanting her business to be a family gig but it's turning out that all her family members are taking advantage of the fact that they are family. Should I talk with my boss about it?

A woman in my department uses what I would call “baby-talk”. She’s 43, never had a date – I suppose she wants to be the Mother of the office.

She is an OK employee (lots of drama at home) but when she speaks to me (dept. admin) she says things like, “Precious, I have to go downstairs...” “Pretty lady, I have to call...”, “Boo, I want to tell you...”, “Good morning Precious! What a pretty blouse for the Pretty Lady!” And when she comments on the picture of my granddaughter she speaks in a lispy, fake, even worse baby voice. GAG!!!! She is not gay and wants a boyfriend in the worst way. She is overly emotional and all attempts to speak with her about issues elicits a huge passive-aggressive attitude and she feels very wronged by the world. She just cannot speak to me and others without the baby-talk. What to do?

I submitted a resume to a customer service call center job. They liked my resume and offered me an over the phone interview. Since she liked my over the phone interview, I was asked to come in for an in person interview. I went to the interview and was told to complete another application. So I did everything that was asked and I thought everything went well during the interview and was told to here back in a couple of days. I never heard back, but I got an email saying that they thank me for submitting my online application but they have no opportunities that match my experience or qualifications.

My question is, if I didnt have the right qualifications to begin with, why did they take me through all of this. And what could I be doing wrong. My resume is good, I have lots of experience and good communication skills. Also I have been interviewing for government jobs as an office clerk and can't get hired with them either despite the fact that I used to work for the gov. as clerical

Hi I just wanted to know - I have just given my notice from my job and leave at the end of the month. I have only been with this company for 3months and have been off sick about 8 days (mostly due to a miscarriage and bad migraines).. I wanted to know if there is anything they can do about it? Would they ask me for money back from my salary?i got paid a couple days ago, so i am not worried about the money but can they go ahead and take money out of my account because i have taken too many days off work? If i take another one can they fire me before my 2 weeks notice is up and claim the money back they have paid me?

I haven't been able to find a job since graduation .I was looking for one in my place , but it was close to impossible to find one. But now ( i don't mind working at a place a little farther than from my town )

it's been a year since i graduated..

What should I say when I am asked this question at an interview ? Eventhough my major was electrical engineering
i worked first 6 months at a call center and gained valuable customer service experience.

But how would I explain the rest 6 months ? and what do i even tell them if they ask me " Why did you work in a call center in the first place ?" because this might not make any sense to them , right ? p.s : i wasn't able to find one job soon because of family problems , but I don't want my employer to think i come from a dysfunctional family . I hope you understand ..
How do I tackle this question intelligently ?

what do you think ?
Thanks.

My employment history only consists of sales and retail, i.e. customer service, cash registers, computer programs at various stores, etc. I am interested in applying for a patient account / scheduling position at a local hospital. I need to submit a nice cover letter with my resume, but I have no idea where to start since I have no related experience. I don't even know how to make those previous skills stand out! Any ideas would be great. thank you

I know this all depends but in general if I make 42,000/yr as an Admin Assistant then get promoted to an Executive assistant, about how much should I expect to get paid more? This is my first job after college so I'm not too familiar with the promotion and raise process in the work environment. Just curious how much I can expect to get paid if I got promoted. Thanks.

I try to keep my calm in most situations at work. Basically "never let them see you sweat". A co-worker sent me an email that maybe on any other day would have been fine. But not today. It's been a bad week and I when I read her blow off email. I let my temper get the better of me. However what I said was true, but I didn't have to say it that way. What should I do?

We have a new HR Manager in the office. I am usually helping the HR department for Candidate's assessment. Recently she came down to greet me and discussed minor changes to the way of interview and meanwhile sent me an email on the same with CC to the boss.

Should i reply to this email where she is writing, "nice to meet with you this morning and i would like to suggest minor changes etc... and thanks for your cooperation, and what should i write in this email?

Please advise.

A few months ago I decided that I needed a change in jobs so I quit and took a position at a local doctor's office as the receptionist. The boss' wife and I know each other from college classes and she hired me because she really likes me. Her and her husband have done nothing but praise me and go on to everyone about how I am doing such a wonderful job. They have also already given me quite a big raise. The problem I'm having is that I absolutely hate this job! It is extremely boring and I like to keep busy. Also, the receptionist that was here before me made a complete mess of their billing system and now it is left up to me to fix it. In my previous job I did nothing but fix other people's mistakes and that's one reason I left. I honestly do not have the energy at this point in time to fix this lady's mistake. How do I quit and stay friends with this lady? I will be seeing her on a regular basis and I really appreciate everything her and her husband have done for me. Please help!

argh. I am so frustrated. I really wanted this one. I kinda lost a bit of conficence when meeting with the president... but other than that all went really well. How long does it usually take to hear back? They aren't checking my references because they don't have them! Maybe I'll just give up on life.

This topic was on GMA this morning while I was getting dressed. I think I did a little cheer when I found out that one company started a no-tolerance gossip ban, and has fired 3 people so far. My boss couldn't initiate this policy because everyone would be fired.

Office gossip spreads like wildfire and ruins reputations, self-esteem and is extremely damaging to peoples lives.

What's your take on it? I'm all for a no-tolerance office gossip ban.

I have 2 yrs exp. in Office Administration. I live & work in Toronto. I just got offered a job. I went for the interview, was told the next day that they found someone else with more experience, so they can't hire me. 2 days after the called me back, asked if i could start work the next day. At the interview, i was told that they pay within $26k range. But today he mentioned that the job is actually $12/hr which makes it $23k. Is this normal or what?

I worked for a company for a few years, got great performance reviews, and merit rasies, now I reapplied, and they told me I am not qualified! I worked the same job in the same company before. I never got a bad review or written up or anything. What is going on? Could they be holding some tiny little thing that I cant remember against me? What is up? How can be not qualified for a job I did very well before? I did leave at a very busy time to concentrate on college. Could they just be mad at me for that?

This past year I received my degree for secretarial technology. I work for the state of Pennsylvania, full-time, but I need a little more cash. I've looked into those online websites that offer these jobs. But I don't understand why you have to pay for them in order to begin. Does anybody have some information that I can look into in order to do this from home? Any information or even a clue to know where to go would help. Thanks!
