I had an interview (phone interview) scheduled for June 4th. She didn't call and after an hour, I called to leave her a message and emailed her at work. She emailed replying that she thought the date was June 11th and said that she'd call to reschedule. A week went by and I emailed asking if the position had been filled. She said no and that she wanted "very much to talk with me" - 'Would I still be available for an interview"? I said yes, but haven't heard anything from her in three days. What should be my next step? Should I forget working for someone who has scheduling conflicts? If she wanted to put me off and not interview me, why say did she wanted to to interview me after a week of no contact?

I have been at my job for 5 years and am very informative. I am doing things that other people would not even consider doing. I have been looked over plenty of times now for a promotion and have started looking for another job. I have mentioned to my management that I am willing to accept more reponsibility. They give me the responsibility but not the title.
What do employers look for when considering their employees for promotions?

How many of you have lost a job due to restructuring.??
Could you see it coming?? Were you glad to get out of there? Was your next job as good, or better?? Would you go back if you had the chance?
--
Once the shock wore off, I was glad to be out of there.
I was unemploted for 6 weeks until I found another job. It wasn't what I had in mind but it looked like a decent place to work until something better came along.
As time went on, it became better and better and I stopped looking for something better. Would I go back? NO way. NFW!

I most recently worked as an office supervisor/executive assistant. I started as a receptionist & worked my way up over the next 3 years. My existing skills include: typing, filing, proficient in MS Office (although I only have working knowledge, not mastery, of Excel), experience with PhotoShop, friendly & professional phone manner, etc. I have a college degree, but not in a business field.

Specifically, I am looking into taking classes to increase my employability. I have considered studying to get the MS Office certifications. I am also curious about what the local tech school's "Medical Coding" classes are.

Any thoughts? Especially from anyone who does hiring, what would you look for in terms of training/education for an office worker?

I'm sure this question has been asked many times before, but I was having trouble searching for a similar question.

Anyway, I worked at the job for 3+ years, was promoted there twice, and more than doubled my starting hourly wage through raises, so I was clearly a valued employee.

I was terminated (not laid off) suddenly during a time of "corporate restructuring" ; my attitude and job performance were suffering because of unhappiness with the changes, and I was looking for another job. They listed on my termination notice "multiple breach of company policy."

I can't just leave them off my work history, because this place is where I gained most of my relevant work experience.

How do I handle this on my resume, on applications, and in interviews? (I have been on 7 job interviews, and suspect that I am either blowing it on this issue, or the past employer is screwing me up on references)

It seems some people are oblivious to what a call center rep.has to endure throughout the course of one day. Is it really constructive for people to endlessly repeat themselves like they are fixated on the crisis, or to whine like spoiled rotten little children who don't get their way? This does not help them get their problems resolved. Who would expect to get help when they are throwing a fit? Do most customers really understand what it's like working in a call center?

Why is it that when I answer the phone with the name of my company (EX: Good morning, thank you for calling ___________) customers always say... uhhh yes where am I calling? Or when I answer the phone and the customer starts telling me his whole life story when I dont even know what hes talking about and hes just holding up my other calls? Why is it that ppl are so stupid and they dont know who they want to talk to when I answer the phone, they are all like uhh... mmm... uhhhhhhh, uhh, ma'am uhh, can I talk to.. uh uh uh uh uh... hmmm. uh. Aghhh that makes me want to yell at them. Why is it that when ppl call a business they ask, yes who's this? What diffrence does it make what my name is? Why, why are ppl so stupid when it comes to calling to a business?

Eventhough I say exactly what I mean, and I am very clear with my message, I still come across so many people who still don't understand what I'm saying. I sometimes have to give detailed directions on how to complete a task, and I find that many people are just not good at follwing directions, even when it is to their own benefit to do so. Does anyone have this problem communicating with people?

The maintenance men had to remove 2 cabinets off the wall in the physician lounge in order to repair a leak...once the work was done, they came into my office to inform me that they could not put the cabinets back in it's original spot or the area we decided on yesterday...I explained to the workers what I thought they should do...When my boss came in I explained to him what was said and he informed me, that he didnt really care, but to leave the decision making up to the coordinator. I said that was fine and went on about my business...About a hour later I went back into the physician lounge to grab a soda and was talking to one of the painters about the work that was being done...Let me say this, there were 4 ppl in the lounge. I was having a conversation with one person and the other two was having a conversation, when the coordinator in my office walked in. I have an interview tomorrow at a bank. How should I dress? I don't want to dress up too much or I'll feel overdressed and insecure. I also don't want to be underdressed. Is it ok to wear a pair of black dressy pants, black heels and a nice top or should I go for a suit and feel overdressed? The HR woman who will be interviewing me said the interview is professional dress. What exactly is that?

OK, im an admin. assistant i am 19 years old. This guy i work with USE to be in charge of our office like 5 years ago. Then my boss hired him back for the hurricane season(i work for a disaster relief company). So he is in and out of the office to go work in the field. WELL, when he is in the office, he expects me to get all his work and plus some. He gets paid salary of $1500.00 a week. I get paid hourly $9.50 a week. Well, when he gets in town, i dread it, bc im gonna get swamped with his work. Well, when he gets mad at me when i say, "I can't get to your project right now, it'll be tomorrow until i do" he gets irrate. He blew up on me yesterday bc he couldnt get a rise out of me, then he started to call me names and kept egging me on. So i blew up and sound like a complete monster. He wrote me up and gave to my supervisor, which my supervisor shredded it. He says he knows how that guy is, but how am i suppose to handle it? My boss' are on vacation right now.

I do nothing all day but answer phones, take messages and handle my boss' personal business (i.e. cleaning up his daughter's resume, making travel arrangements for his family, etc.). I was originally hired to be a marketing and sales admin and was told my job would consist of more than just secretarial work. The marketing department was split from the sales soon after I started and now they have their own people and I'm stuck. I was lied to and am now being treated like a subordinate. When I was first hired, a BA was required, now the ads for admins in this department state they are looking for people with HS Diplomas only!! I feel they have lowered the bar - how can I grow here?
I'm ready to get the hell out of here and am interviewing like crazy, but have just found out that my boss has cancer. I'm currently interviewing, but feel like a jerk for doing so now. When I finally land that other job, how can I leave the one I currently have without burning bridges?

Does anyone else have a situation where women are having these spats in the office? It's really becoming disruptive. I think part of the problem is that one woman is a secretary and the other is her superior on the flow chart. The one that's a secretary doesn't like that. They each keep playing "gotcha" - trying to make the other look bad. For awhile, I thought it was amusing. Now, I'm thinking about calling them both in and telling them to cut it out or they're both going to be fired.

My boyfriend today was fired over the phone by his boss at Banana Republic when he called in to see what the new schedule was for the week. He recently get hired there and despite being only 2-3 minutes late two times on the clock (which was actually one of their reasons for firing him), he has been an attentive worker. He applied for a fulltime position and instead of giving him regular 5 days a week 9 hours shifts (with lunch), they instead signed him up for 6 part time shifts a week. When he called in, his boss gave him the reasons in which he was fired for not showing up today, she was unprofessional. From my view point, I don't think he did anything wrong. He worked 7 days straight, one week running into another. Should he complain to corporate? I understand he will not get his job back but perhaps if there are prior complaints towards this manager, something will be done. This branch has been recently noted as one that has been having poor sales performance. Opinions?
