Write your resume to emphasize the things you have done during those 20 years as a fundraiser, as a membership chair, and as the hospitality chair. Sum up your experience in one or two sentences, and then using 3-7 bullet points lay out specific skills you used to supervise and manage budgets and pull people together to get things done. Write another sentence underneath that tells your potential hiring manager what the outcome of your task was and how it helped the organization.

Write up a resume emphasizing your experience when you were in the paid workforce, and all the things you've done since then. And don't forget that being a mom involves a lot of skills that are very useful in the paid workplace - things like organizing, prioritizing....

Have as good an idea as you can of what you're looking for, but keep open to other areas that require the skills that you have.

Good luck. It's normal to be scared after this many years. And if you don't get the first job you apply for, don't think there's something wrong with you - most people look for awhile before finding a good job.

First, create a resume showing all that you've done over the twenty years as a domestic wife. Many companies hire women that have taken care of a home and family because they know they are very capable of multi-tasking and getting things done efficiently. You should have no problems getting hired. Point out all the strengths you carry by running a tight ship at home. Show how you have excellent communication skills by dealing with other parents and school administrators. Also, show how you take care of finances. Such as, if you had debt, how much you brought it down and how much you've saved, etc. Word it better, obviously. :) I really hoped this helped. Good luck, you probably won't need it though. :)

Don;'t blame you for being terrified. But I did it. I was out of work for 23 years just raising my kids. I went back to work 3 years ago, I love it and I love what I do. My youngest is only 6 so I only work from 9 to 4 four days a week. And even that is alot. But I would not give it up even though I am thoroughly zonked at the end of the day. (I have my daughter come to my work place after school so that I am the one to greet her when she get home from school.

First, there is nothing to be terrified about. You are an honest person simply looking for honest work. Nothing wrong with that.
When I was younger I would have held out till I got what I wanted. Now I'd ease myself back with an acceptable not too demanding job that I could take or leave just to test the waters and strengthen my wings.
Good Luck!

-Take some classes to refresh you on updates in your field.
-Learn the computer programs and applications that will affect your job: it's hard to survive in the business world if you're not fluent with Outlook, Word, and Excel.
-Talk with professionals in your field and hold "informational interviews" to pick their brains and see what's changed. They can also provide excellent advice and contacts.

Why not try a staffing agency or something? They usually can always find work for you to do, and often times their jobs lead into permanent positions.
