My boyfriend today was fired over the phone by his boss at Banana Republic when he called in to see what the new schedule was for the week. He recently get hired there and despite being only 2-3 minutes late two times on the clock (which was actually one of their reasons for firing him), he has been an attentive worker. He applied for a fulltime position and instead of giving him regular 5 days a week 9 hours shifts (with lunch), they instead signed him up for 6 part time shifts a week. When he called in, his boss gave him the reasons in which he was fired for not showing up today, she was unprofessional. From my view point, I don't think he did anything wrong. He worked 7 days straight, one week running into another. Should he complain to corporate? I understand he will not get his job back but perhaps if there are prior complaints towards this manager, something will be done. This branch has been recently noted as one that has been having poor sales performance. Opinions?

Take it as a learning experience. Your boyfriend will be much better for it. Employment is really a marketplace nowadays. Gone are the good old days when they give you a gold watch, a company dinner and retirement pay.

A person who has something to offer in this marketplace must be the best of the best if he or she wants to get good jobs.

He certainly could complain and would only be productive if the manager does have complaints filed against her. Keep in mind that if he pisses off the wrong person in the process, they might say something negative when asked for a reference. Even though most employers have a neutral reference policy, if they get directly to the supervisor, she might say something more specific. And, if he is a newly hired employee, being late at all is considered unacceptable during the first 30 days sor so. My advice? Let it go and move on and spend the time looking for a better job where they will be more reasonable. We've all crossed this bridge at one time or another. Keep positive and good luck!

I'm only guessing here, but as a manager, I'd say she was probably looking for an excuse to get rid of him and this was it.

You can call and complain but know that it will probably not solve anything. Depending on the tenure of the manager and her previous record, she could be "untouchable" in the company. Or she could be relatively new and it will be shrugged off as growing pains. Chances are, nothing serious will come of a complaint.

My suggestion is a lot like the others. Just move on. Retail is fairly cut throat.

Time to move on, period. Complaining up the corporate chain isn't appropriate in this instance. And it won't bring the result you expect.

Being late as a new employee is NEVER acceptable. NEVER. A new employee has to make the right impression constantly, because there are dozens of other applicants waiting for their chance. 2 minutes late is still late. And being inattentive to the schedule is even worse in shift work.

Life's lessons are hard sometimes. Perhaps this wasn't really the job for him and he needs to reevaluate where he is in life. (And whether he wants to be on shift work/hourly pay for the rest of his life.)

In answer on your question i think of the white working classification have lost their experience of id...or actual experience that they have. White working classification boys are the backside achievers in college on the 2nd, there are no particular "seize-up" programmes in place which contain there are for infants of ethnic minorities, afro-carribbean etc etc. The programme final evening replaced into biased, I believe the poster above, it replaced into set in a Northern city, no actual immigrants residing there and stupid human beings spouting off. properly......the BBC made the programme, says all of it.
