I work for a small company...I have a bachelors and my boss (the owner) does not have a college degree. His girlfriends mother died and left her the house, so he sold his house and they had extra money, so he bought a franchise with it...

Anyway, the other week he wrote me an email saying:
"Write the words "FOR YOU" on the post it that I put on the table in the corner".

I can't stop thinking about it and I get soooo angry. Right now I'm foaming at the mouth.

Do you consider that degrading and just wrong?!!!???

I am the accountant/office manager for a very small office (three other employees in the main office, four employees in the field). I also answer the company phone if someone chooses "operator" from the voice mail menu. Every day my boss makes coffee, and he always leaves his cup partway full of cold coffee next to the coffee pot with the leftover coffee in it. He has asked me to always close his window shades at the end of the day (after he's gone) andhe's strongly suggested that it's my duty to clean the coffee pot (which is mine by the way, but that's another story). I do all that he expects, but I feel sort of humiliated?

I am a 43 year old male. Can anyone relate?

Well, the MD gave me a cheque of a handsome amount with an appraisal letter and told me not to tell my immediate boss about it.

Should i inform my immediate boss about it and mention that MD said so, since i am informing him each and every possible thing. What if he'll get to know this from MD later or someone else, he might feel bad and think when he tells me each small thing, why didn't he inform me about it.

In an 8 week time period, I incorrectly transcribed a phone number 3 times. Each time it happened, my boss pointed it out and asked, "why can't you get it right?" Each time, I apologized, corrected the number, and said that I would try my best to get the numbers right. On average, he gets about 50 calls per day and I handwrite the messages on a phone log for myself and a phone long for him. On the three occasions, I incorrectly copied the number from my book to his book. I really try my best to be perfect. Today, he said "I am so tired of this!" Not sure what to do? The errors are not deliberate. Any advice?

I live in MA and wondering who qualifies for unemployment benefits/pay? I thought it was just for people that were laid off from their jobs, or when their company went out of business. But some say you can still collect if you were fired from a job. Does anyone know the guidelines? or who can NOT collect.

WHY HIRE SOMEONE IF YOU GONNA STAY THERE? DUH???

I have since moved on. I plan on updating rez and sending out tomorrow. Did I mention this is at a dealership? Workerbee owner does not care, and him and the current controller are thick as thieves. No wonder he doesnt want her to leave.

I have certainly learned a lesson here. If a job is too good to be true, prolly is. And no more dealership jobs for sure! No future.

It took this company 3 weeks to call me back after my 2nd interview. I was told when they called for my 3rd that the interview would be "next week" which was a week ago. She asked me what my availability was for the following week: 8/20/07 but then never called back to schedule it. Should I call the assistant and check on the status of when my 3rd is scheduled or should I just wait?

I am sure some of you will state the obvious, however, I left my job today because I feel that I have the biggest shoes to fill and that I will never measure up to the lady that I am replacing. She acts also like she doesnt want to leave anyways, but the owner is making her.
They are wanting me to come back, but I just cannot. I enjoyed working there other than the usual stress, but the lady I replacing doesnt want to show me ANYTHING. I am simply working there 52 hours a week and killing myself for nothing really.
The lady I am replacing is somewhat of a control freak. And I cannot work with that. I left at lunch.
Should I talk to them or just leave it alone??
Because I do not have a vested interest in the company, I am not as important to share company accounting information with. And in case you are curious, I am replacing the current controller who doesnt want to show me anything.

I went in for an interview today for an office manager position. The owner of the company asked the typical, tell me about your background and family questions, and I was certain I had the job in the bag. He put me to work 20 minutes after I got there. Three hours later, he comes in the office, and tells me that there's another person they're considering. He said that I was more experienced with the system they're using, and I have the know how, but she's older. (I'm 27) He also said he's concerned about the fact that my husband will be deployed overseas, and if he dies I may want to go back home.
He asked that I call in the morning and set up an interview with his wife, so she can decide if I get the job.
My question is, should either of these factors determine if I get the job? I'm thinking not. I feel like I'm being discriminated against because of my age and my husbands job. If it is discrimination, is it worth trying to do anything about it?

The other full time secretary in my office just received the title "clerical office leader". Ok. I have more seniority and knowledge than this woman. She is not "over me", just the two other clerks, I also make $1.00 more an hour than she does. Yet, I still feel offended. Granted, i'm not interested in acquiring more work, it's just like a slap in the face. Any thoughts/comments on this? Am I being silly?

I worked 2 years on the client site. My old boss left and so this new one came in and is documenting the group's work processes to detect what redundancies are there plus, she can't hire anyone new. My old boss will tell me 1 month in advance if there's no permanent position but this one won't. I don't want to quite after I've worked there 2 years, plus, I want to be able to apply at the company without seeing that I quit before my temp assignment is over. What can I do in the meantime?
