I supervise a young man who is having issues accepting & changing his inappropriate behaviour while working at our front desk. I have explained that there have been many complaints & his first request is to find out the incident or the complainer. As all the complaints are regarding "attitude" I explained that we need to focus on correcting the behaviour & not dwell on specifics.

After my chat with him on Tue., in which I said he was not to worry about the who's & when's, I found out he went to another co-worker & tried to drag names &incidents out of them. They came to me in confidence, as they fear his attitude &/or retaliation, so I didn't feel it appropriate to confront him with that knowledge.

We did have a pre-scheduled meeting with our HR on Wed. where they also expressed a need for him to work on the behaviour & leave the details alone.

Has anyone had a similar problem & how did you fix it? We've had too many complaints from staff but mngt WILL NOT let us fire him!

I have been working as a receptionist for a year while taking some time off from my career as a teacher. I worked as an administrative assistant right out of university while I was earning my master's degree.

I want to know if anyone agrees with me. Shouldn't everyone have to be a receptionist at one point in their lives in order to know how awful administrative staff can be treated? When people don't return their calls, we are the ones who get screamed at. Yes, literally, SCREAMED at. What do you think?

Say I have a friend who is a DJ, and I need to reach them in an emergency. If it were another job, I'd just call their office or whatever and reach them directly. Is there a "personal line" at radio stations, other than the request line, to reach the DJ's? On the same subject, would a cell phone work in the recording booths, or is it like a dead zone in there?

Ever since I started this job it has been confusing as hell. I was lied to in the interview about my duties and now I am stuck. I am a PA/Receptionist/Admin Assistant. But my duties mainly consist of making coffee, being a door mat and bringing in the garbage cans. None of my 13 years of experience are being used. My boss is a jerk who does stupid things all day long, but the minute you make one mistake you hear it forever. She and the Office/HR manager are also ploting things behind my back. They have pulled similar scams with 3 other girls before me. They only plan to keep you for a year then build up things against you so when the "let you go" you can't get unemployment. I want to leave but because I am new I don't have anytime to do an interview. I feel stressed and stuck. I can't walk off because I have a family to consider. What would you do in my situation?

Of those of you who work as an admin assist/receptionist, how busy are you during the way? How do you spend your time? Is there a lot of downtime where you don't have any actual work and must occupy yourself doing whatever you want? I'm looking for a job like that. Basically I want to get paid to sit in a chair and answer phones and assist people when it comes up, but generally not being too busy

Hello, I have these 2 women (temps who will got permanent in a month) I work with that are nothing but trouble! They go to the boss and make false accusations and feed the boss all the office gossip. Needless to say the bosses love them. They do everything together b/c they are afraid to be confronted by someone in the office ( very few people like them) they go to the bathroom together, the copier, save seats at mtgs, and if I am in the hall they will wait till I am gone to walk out. The same goes for the parking lot…its just crazy I have never seen such crazy behavior! I have had limited contact with them and don’t really work on a close level with in the office yet they are always looking to say something!!! I see them and I seriously can feel my blood boil. I was revenge, I want them out, I want to fight back!!! Help! Any suggestions are needed! Have you dealt with this before?

The last job I had was in 2002 and I have been self-employed for the past 5 years. I am seeking to enter back into the corporate setting, but I am not sure how to market myself. I have always been under the impression that hiring managers usually like people with steady employment, but this is a pretty big gap. Furthermore, my previous experience is clerical, which is what I am seeking again.
