I applied for a file clerk position at my local transportation company and I will be tested on two seperate tests, one for "proofing" and another for "filing" both half hour long tested on the computer. I have no idea what it is or how to prepare for it. any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated. thanks!

For the filing part, they'll probably want you to put different combinations of sequential letters where they should go; for example, you're given a file that starts with "ste"; does it go before or after a combo like, "sti"? or some test along those lines.
A proofing test will ask you to read a short paragraph and spot spelling and grammatical mistakes and it may even ask you to correct those mistakes.
Both tests are designed to not only see if you can do either task (filing or proofing documents) but also if you can pay attention to detail.

I believe I am the best canidate for the position due to the fact I am detail oriented and a perfectionist. With a file clerk position these two personal attributes are the most desired. You need to be detail oriented to insure that the documents are filed correctly. You also need to be a perfectionist to give the person hiring you the confidence that you will not only do the job correctly but take pride in the fact that it is done correctly. Anytime you interview for a job, before you go to the interview think about what skills will be the most important for that position. Then play up those skills in your resume and your interview conversation. Good luck and I hope this helps!

Basically you have to know how to spell. To file is to put things in alphabetical order. Proofing is no doubt checking documents for accuracy. Make sure that you have had enough sleep so that you are alert and quick.

Half way down the page on this link they tell you about certain office tests and give a brief description:

As I remember, the filing test will consist of putting words in alphabetical order. It's not hard, but can be a little confusing. Take your time and carefully read and understand what you are asked to do.

Good Luck.
