I also live in CA. My last job I gave my 2 week notice. On my last day I was given a live check for all the days that I've worked plus any unused PTO or Sick time that I have available. As long as you work through the end of your 2 week you should be expecting everything that should be coming to you.

Yes, you should receive your final paycheck on your last day at work, including unused vacation time.

No, usually your pay role check is a week or two behind the actual week you worked. In other words you may have one or two more checks coming your way with the vacation time in the last one!

That is typically what happens. However, state law may give them a few days, but not very many, after your departure to get your final check to you. If it is a fairly large company, your check should be available when you exit.
Ask your personnel/payroll manager.

I've always seen people receive their last check on the regular pay day following the last day of employment.

In some states yes, in other states no.
California is one of the YES states.
The no states would just pay out on the next scheduled payday.

Yes, with a physical check - no direct deposit. If not, penalties apply to the employer.
