A woman in my department uses what I would call “baby-talk”. She’s 43, never had a date – I suppose she wants to be the Mother of the office.

She is an OK employee (lots of drama at home) but when she speaks to me (dept. admin) she says things like, “Precious, I have to go downstairs...” “Pretty lady, I have to call...”, “Boo, I want to tell you...”, “Good morning Precious! What a pretty blouse for the Pretty Lady!” And when she comments on the picture of my granddaughter she speaks in a lispy, fake, even worse baby voice. GAG!!!! She is not gay and wants a boyfriend in the worst way. She is overly emotional and all attempts to speak with her about issues elicits a huge passive-aggressive attitude and she feels very wronged by the world. She just cannot speak to me and others without the baby-talk. What to do?

LOL -- Maybe that's why she hasn't found anybody to be with yet.

diverse stokes for various individuals. in the experience that your co-worker grew to become into talking on the telephone approximately some thing you have an activity in (i.e. activities, video games, golf equipment) you likely does no longer suggestions. some men are basically too emotionally related to their companion. even regardless of the indisputable fact that, the calls a number of cases an afternoon and gum concern is unproductive and unprofessional. you're on your good to convey this on your supervisor.

At 43 years old, I can't see this woman changing. If you do say something to her about it, it will probably offend her and make your working relationship worse. The best thing to do is to ignore it.

Remember that you come to work to earn a paycheck. Anything else is irrelevant.

Good luck!

At 43 she will not change her ways of talking that way to you or anyone else. Just accept her for who she is , and don't' worry about her personal life, she's an adult.

I would have a conversation with your supervisor about this situation. I would state that it makes you uncomfortable and almost makes you wonder if she is talking down to you or trying to flirt with you. I would also mention that you have had no success with asking her not to continue this routine.
If someone came to me with this complaint, I would be quick to address it as it could develop into a sexual harassment or discrimination situation down the road.
At the very least, it is unprofessional conduct.

Ah, co-worker angst, something all of us have to deal with...yours is great compared to many I've seen on here. I had a co-worker who sat right next to me and picked her nose, examinded it and then wiped it on her clothes. She also told me I was going to hell because I wasn't "born again."

Maybe she can't remember names. When she says Precious, whatever . Say "okay, but my name is . . . " She'll either take the hint or not. Probably not, if she's been getting away with it for a long time.

honestly i dont see how you could bring it up without hurting her feelings. at this point that's just how she is and i dont see her changing her ways. i'm sure this is truly annoying to you and your co-workers. my advise would simply be to keep your conversations with her strictly work related.
