My employment history only consists of sales and retail, i.e. customer service, cash registers, computer programs at various stores, etc. I am interested in applying for a patient account / scheduling position at a local hospital. I need to submit a nice cover letter with my resume, but I have no idea where to start since I have no related experience. I don't even know how to make those previous skills stand out! Any ideas would be great. thank you

Figure out ways that your experience DOES parallel the requirements of the job you are applying for, and stress those. For example, extensive work with the public, use of various computer systems.....

Be upfront! State the obvious. Say exactly what you wrote above in your cover letter, i.e. while I do not have previous experience in the hospital field, I am very interested in it. I'm a quick learner and I believe my excellent people skills and expertise with computers will be a great fit.

Go to school to be a medical information technician and you'll have a better chance getting that type of job.
