I notifyied my employer that I would be leaving my position at their company. This guy is such a mis-manager that he had me 1) place ads for my job position, 2) screen applicants, and 3) expects me to tag-team in interviewing candidates. Eventually, I will be training the chosen person, which I have no problem with. But I do not feel comfortable with being in on the interview sessions with these candidates. He is so used to having things done for him, or being constantly reminding of his responsibilities, I feel that he is just asking me to shoulder the decision-making in this process. Is this a viable concern?

Hello! I just had an interview on Wednesday at a restaurant. The interview only lasted about 10 minutes and he told me that he wanted to schedule me for a second interview. But when he came back, the schedule was apparently "full" and the GM is out of town. I have sent out my thank you letter. Is this enough or is there anything else I need to do to score this second interview? Should I also call them after a week? I need your professional advice and opinion! Thank you!

I recently left my employment and I have to pay them back for some courses that I took over the summer. They want to take my last paycheck after taxes has been deducted from it and apply towards the amount I owe for the tuition. I live in the state of New York and my brother-in-law told me that what they are doing might be considered "theft" since they can deduct taxes from that last paycheck and take it from me. He said if they are going to take taxes then possibly to legal reasons they are obliged to hand that last paycheck to me. Does anyone know about this? If this is true, then I can file a complaint with the state's board of labor.

I have been asked by a corporation to interview with one of their senior level managers at their home office which would be all expense paid by the company. This would be the final step in the interview process. I first interviewed by phone, then interviewed locally with a person from the company and was told that the finalist would go to their home office for the final interview, which is me, so what I am wanting to know is that in most peoples experience is this a good sign that I am being strongly considered for the job and most likely going to get the job?

I'm currently a waitress and would like to know if some of you other servers have little tricks to increase tips. I've found that giving little dollar store toys to fussy kids and having my nails done (clean and hygienic looking, I guess) greatly increases my tips.

Please, no customer suggestions unless it's unique because no offense, but if you haven't served, you probably don't get it. Most of you will give me vague, common sense responses like "Be prompt, friendly, and make sure my drink is always filled, etc." and well, those are "DUH" answers...obviously I'm not thinking "Oh, I think I'll let them sit there with an empty glass for a while and I think I'll just stand here for 20 minutes instead of greeting them".

I will probably get a job offer, a very good one actually related to my experience. I suspect the pay will be much better than my current job. I hate my current job, the people I work with and the situation I'm in....I am older, more professional, however, if I get the job offer do I really owe them two weeks notice?

I am working at a place that middle management is killing by focusing on statistics and not the goals of the company. I not really sure if a whale like this company can move to hit its mark or it will fail. I hear things that make me have faith. Leaders with vision that make me desire to fight that fight and bring that extra 25% of effort to the table. But there are so many people that can fail to see the big picture and go full speed at iceburgs and fools that praise them for their being a fool. I was in the Arthur Anderson mess and have learned that if it seems bad it usually is. Am I jaded ?

Im 14, and I have always been interested in buisness. I am seroiusly starting to decide where some of my interests for a career are and buisness is becoming a serious option. I know I am still young, because im only in grade 9, but time will pass by fast just 3 more years till grade 12, exams, and acutally deciding what im going to be. I know buisness can be extremley tiring, brutal, and boring work, and only few buisnessmen can become very sucessful because of the competitve market, but what are some of the great business degrees to have? and jobs related to buisness? I am just curoius because I want to know what my options are. How many years does it take to get those excellent buisness degrees. And isa career in buisness really worth all the time and effort spent at school? Thank You!

I just got my first job today as a Field Engineer with duties including picking up parts from central office, delivering it to customers and if required installing these parts. The job will run for 2 months, after which I may or may not be asked to stay on.

As happy as I am to have got the job, I am now having problems because I have been told that I will need to use my own van when doing this job.
I am really confused about what to do now, I don't have a van and don't really want to buy a van just in case I am told that I can't stay on after the 2 months.

I have just had a quick look at some van hire companies on the net and the cheapest I could find for a 2 month period is £1600(not sure if this includes insurance).

The job itself only pays £300-£400 per week, its also in central London so the added hassle of £8 daily congestion charge.

Any advice or suggestions about what I could do to afford this job would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I have been with the company for 5 years, I just moved ina leadership position which is very stressful. I have asked my boss for part time work about 6 weeks ago (which was approved) but I am still very stressed as the company hasn't provided me with the support ( i do 5 days work in 3 days). I quit on Monday without having another job. I emailed by boss as he was not at work and I am meting with him on Monday. He is very keen to keep me (he is all talk but no actions by the way - promises things that he won't keep) but I feel that I am destroying my health>> Did I make the right decision by quitting and waht shoudl I tell him on Monday??

I am trying to apply for an internship at Rockwell Collins (an aerospace tech company). I know a manager there, and I asked him if he could post an opening on the Rockwell website. Only problem is that I emailed him about 3 weeks ago and I haven't heard anything back. I tried calling his number for his work phone and haven't gotten him either. What should I try next? I really am interested in this job, I would be making $7 an hour, and it is a career field that I am interested in.

This question is strictly for you: I have never fully understood your concern about a candidate's unemployment period(s). I've had to explain to a few employers that I was taking care of my terminally ill mother and then had to clean out our old house. I suppose if a person has more than a few months between jobs it can cause concern. But what are you so concerned about gaps in someone's employment? If a person is before you, wearing a suit and tie and is enthusiastic about the job, what difference does a gap or two in their employment matter?
