This question is strictly for you: I have never fully understood your concern about a candidate's unemployment period(s). I've had to explain to a few employers that I was taking care of my terminally ill mother and then had to clean out our old house. I suppose if a person has more than a few months between jobs it can cause concern. But what are you so concerned about gaps in someone's employment? If a person is before you, wearing a suit and tie and is enthusiastic about the job, what difference does a gap or two in their employment matter?

It means one of two things. You were fired, or you cant stay committed to a job. They want to know what happend. Most people dont leave a job they are in without having another job. That doesnt show good responsibility. Or you excuse might be I hated my job, my question would be and you were irresponsible enough to leave it without another one?

Or it would be I got fired. Okay what were you fired for? Gaps in employment can say alot about a candidate. I hated seeing them too. I would rather see 4 jobs in 2 years then 2 jobs with 2 gaps. I hated gaps for the above reason. Because there usually isnt a good reason.

If you have a good reason for them its understandable. Sometimes. Sorry about your mom, that is a good reason.

Good luck, but those are the questions I would have and why.

if there are gaps in between jobs they are concerned if there will be gaps in your attendance, if there was any jail time, and for what reasons, what was the reason for the gap of unemployment, prior to your last job were you fired? and why?
Gaps in between jobs also falls into being fired. last minute termination usually leaves the person with out plans. and it takes gaps to look for another job. Don't take it to personal, the company you are applyng for is just looking to see if you or anyone else is the better candidate for the position that is available. Depending on the gap in between jobs is a little concern to the company hiring. especially if the gap is from 6 months to a year or more. the person applying would be considered a risk depending on the reason.

a gap in employment may signal that someone was unexpectedly fired. in this case, you want to know the cause of the firing to figure out if this is an undesirable issue for your company.

a gap could also indicate prison time that the person hasn't been truthful about. if the prison term was for any corporate crime (embezzlement, forgery, etc) this would greatly concern an employer. if the prison term was for a violent or sexual time, this might also cause concern.

if the employment history isn't for either of the previous two reasons, it might signal a lack of commitment or maturity. why? because responsible people typically find a new job BEFORE leaving a previous position.

It does indicate instability, but there are exceptions like you had with your mother. The State and Federal Civil Rights Divisions like to see only one word from your last job. That being either Resigned or Terminated. Anything else can lead to defamation of character and other things which is ripe for a law suit. Just document and you'll be OK.

Small gaps usually don't bother me. It is the larger ones that give me concern. I want a nurse that is current with their skills and information in the field. If they took off a year or more, then i would hesitate to hire.

i do no longer see discrimination, yet there are some commerce motives from the point of view of your corporation. First, it particularly is to their financial benefit to have workers categorized as area time. a factor time worker can artwork comprehensive time hours, however the corporation is under no liability to furnish any supplementary perks, like advantages. it could additionally be, that the comprehensive time place being employed is at a decrease pay fee then the area time fee. i might ask greater questions no rely if it particularly is something you certainly need to persue.
