I just got my first job today as a Field Engineer with duties including picking up parts from central office, delivering it to customers and if required installing these parts. The job will run for 2 months, after which I may or may not be asked to stay on.

As happy as I am to have got the job, I am now having problems because I have been told that I will need to use my own van when doing this job.
I am really confused about what to do now, I don't have a van and don't really want to buy a van just in case I am told that I can't stay on after the 2 months.

I have just had a quick look at some van hire companies on the net and the cheapest I could find for a 2 month period is £1600(not sure if this includes insurance).

The job itself only pays £300-£400 per week, its also in central London so the added hassle of £8 daily congestion charge.

Any advice or suggestions about what I could do to afford this job would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

just tell the company that you don't have a van and they will have to suppy one.

Was it mentioned when you went for the interview that you needed to provide a van??

Never heard of such a thing ..

MAYBE if you are a self-employed Contractor or Consultant, but for sure, no real Employer expects their own STAFF to provide things like their own VANS ...

.. I mean, chances are you are not insured properly and if you had an accident both you and the company could end up being sued for thousands .. (not to mention you could end up in jail) ...

Nope = I think some-one is 'pulling your leg' .. (just respond "ha ha, good joke .. now hand over the keys to the works van ... and don't forget to give me the Credit Card for petrol)
