On most of my job interviews (after telling them I was in the Army) they asked me if I could handle stress. Are they kidding?. Were they trying to be sarcastic? Do a lot of people think the army is just running around the woods shooting a rifle?

Most of these jobs I got turned down for made me start thinking there are a lot of military haters out there.

to continue to do? She asked me for the "honest" truth. The honest truth is that I've been with my company for over 12 yrs and the job I'm performing now (for the past year) is something I'm not very happy doing. There are other jobs in the company, but we recently went through a major layoff.

I'm curious as to how you would have responded if your boss asked you this question. Mind you, I work for a very large "profit" organization.

I know that eventually I will find a job as long as I keep on looking. Its just taking its toll on me, to go to job interviews without success. I guess my question is how do I regain my energy and strength to keep on with my search

I have been the assistant to my boss for over 5 ½ years now. Her and I are a team. We run HER desk. I am her only assistant and she is my only boss. Recently, business has been slow and the company had to lay off several employees. Luckily, I was able to keep my job but I not have to assist another woman (as her assistant was laid off). NO BIG DEAL TO ME. I am, however, experience a LOT of bitterness between my boss and this other woman. From the other woman losing her assistant to my boss having to share hers (me). This other lady has been making real snide remarks about my boss, etc. I really want to mention one of them to my boss. This other lady emailed me saying, “Seeing as your boss is on the internet, I’m assuming she’s not very busy so I have lots for you to do today and tomorrow. It really URKES me that she’s acting this way! There’s really nothing I can do. I don’t want to complain because I just might be laid off for some off the wall reason!

Can that even happen? I'm planning on quitting my job, but my employers and manager don't like me because I have kept asking about my late paychecks until I get them. They don't like me, I don't like them. But I want to quit rather than get fired, because I don't want to have to write that I was fired on why I left my last job whenever I apply for another job.

I was wondering how to get a start into the Fashion Buying world in the U.S. Today I interviewed for a Merchant Technology Assistant job with Macy's West in San Francisco. I'm thinking that's a good way to get my foot in the door. Although, it might take awhile to work my way up and actually be involved in the decision making process (and traveling to trade shows or abroad) since Macy's is a large retailer.

So, do any of you guys have any other suggestions on how to get a fashion buying job? Or where would be a good start? I do have previous retail experience and I have a Bachelor's Degree. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks :)

And what should I say when I ask to reschedule? I need something neutral. I understand that things come up, and I don't want to sound like I'm blaming anyone (including myself!). Everything that I can think of saying (we must have gotten our wires crossed..., I was under the impression that..., I was expecting your call) I'd like to reschedule the interview.

I've been talking to a potential employer about my expected compensation. My expectation is say, $ X/hour on W2, the employer says he is willing to offer $(x-10)/hour as pay, again on W2 and $10/hour as per diem.

I am trying to better understand how per diem amount is determined. Based on my research I understand that per diem is not calculated based on the pay or the number of hours worked.

So, here is my question - how is the amount determined for per diem, I am not sure how the employer has fixed the amount to be $10? Is it based on the location and/or any other factor? Also, can it be hourly?

I have been working for a fairly large corportation for 15 years, and last 7 years I have been working 3 days (part time). I have a 4 months old baby and I am scheduled to go back last week of this month. I assumed that I am going back part time but my manager just called me home and said they have been extremely busy and my only option is to return back to work full time. My DS has severe acid reflux and it will be impossible for me to find someone to take care of him for extra 2 days and also I myself am not ready to go work full time having 2 kids (7 yr old and 4 mnth old). I asked my manager whey she didn't tell me sooner and she said she was too busy. She also said the decision has been made and I don't have any other option (which possibley can mean if I can't come back full time then quit). Can this company (very anti family) do this to me legally? Any advice will be greatly appreicated.

Im trying to determine what career feild to go into!!

Either a elementary school teacher.
If I went in to this career...I would eventually get a masters degree and go into school counseling!

OR--ultrasound technician! It sounds interesting to me! Makes a decent salary!

The main thing I live for though is having a family...I dont have kids yet, but I am thinking about it soon! I also want to be able to support them with a decent salary!
My husband is in the airforce!

I'm leaving my current job in a week to start on a new position. Before accepting the new position, i've planned a 2 week vacation with my parents, but I forgot to mention that on the interview and when I accepted the job. Should I still go on the trip or should I even bother asking my new employer if it's ok or should I just cancel the trip-I'm scared that If I go on vacation 2 weeks after starting on a new job, that I won't have the job when I come back.

Also, i've been waiting for my boss to come in to the office so I can give her my resignation, but She hasn't been into the office-is it ok if I send her my resignation via email? or phone? please help

I am 18 years old, and have experience in dealing with animals. I applied at Petsmart 3 times (2 different store locations). The third time I applied, I spoke to the manager of the store. I told him, that I do have experience with animals and I also told him, that I was willing to do the job. This does not make sense, but he refused to give me an interview. I filled out the online application perfectly. I have been turned down for every job, that applied for. An employer isn't going to know how successful I will be, until I'm given a chance.

I have filled out the online application and am currently waiting for a call back. Do any of you have any suggestions on how to go about pursuing this type of profession? If any of you are/were flight attendants, I'd love to hear what your experience has been.
Thank you!!

I started my seasonal job in May of '06, left early for school, and the facility closes in November (weather pending - it's a kart race track). I came back to work this May again after I got out of school. I was expecting the annual dollar raise I kept hearing about, but they gave me a hard time about it - because I didn't work a "full year."
I was wondering how long an employer can keep you at the same paid hourly rate until they have to increase it (by any amount - whether it's $.10, $.25, or $1 raise).

Okay so I worked at a little ceasers for about a week.. which was the last week of june. Since then I thought they would mail me my paycheck, but they havent. I had direct deposit, but no money got deposited in my last billing cycle. I called them today, and they said the manager wont be in until september. When I asked about my paycheck, they said it wasnt there. Is there any way she could have locked my paycheck up somwhere? Would they have paid me by check? By then would the check even be good anymore, after around 3 months? What should I do?
