In my view - communication.
No matter how good you are at solving problems, working with figures, interpreting data, treating animals etc, you are lost if you can't communicate effectively, whatever form this communication takes.

Listening skill is the single most important skill from my experience. The benefits from listening acutely is that you can recall how other think. Remembering a person's name three weeks between meeting that person makes a positive and lasting impression. Outside of the classroom, listening is the source of gaining much practical lessons and generally people are respected as person who is considerate of other people.

Be kind to others you just never know who will end up helping you out in life. I have always followed this rule, taught to me by my mother. As I am now in my 60's I just cannot believe how much it has paid off! I have found work practically the minute I needed it and later someone has told me that I did something nice for them at some time or another, that I have forgotten about. It is unreal how it pays off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How to manage your money. I see far too many people living from paycheck to paycheck. The old cliche, "In order to get money you must have it," is true.
If you manage to save a portion of your income every month, then when a crisis arises you have the money on hand to take care of it, instead of borrowing and paying interest. People need to begin to equate paying interest with throwing their money away. Also, if you manage to save up enough, then it can be invested and that can help you save even more money and afford a nice retirement.

- Organization
- Communication (written and verbal)
- Problem solving
- Leadership (includes delegation and tact)
- Time management
- A competent level of understanding finances
Those have worked well for me so far! Don't underestimate the importance of appearance as well (good hygiene and appropriate clothing are a must!).

Communicating. No other job skills will help you if you can't communicate to an employer in an interview how valuable you will be. Then you need to keep communicating on the job to make sure you're doing a good job and that your boss knows it.
