I'm leaving my current job in a week to start on a new position. Before accepting the new position, i've planned a 2 week vacation with my parents, but I forgot to mention that on the interview and when I accepted the job. Should I still go on the trip or should I even bother asking my new employer if it's ok or should I just cancel the trip-I'm scared that If I go on vacation 2 weeks after starting on a new job, that I won't have the job when I come back.
Also, i've been waiting for my boss to come in to the office so I can give her my resignation, but She hasn't been into the office-is it ok if I send her my resignation via email? or phone? please help

It is more professional to offer a resignation in person, however, if there are mitigating circumstances (ie, your immediate manager isn't in the office now or the short future) you can leave them a voicemail and express your need to discuss it with them (tell them that you would like to discuss a resignation), more than likely, they'll call back quick enough if they are merely working remotely. If they are on vacation, you might have to go up the chain of command.
You should discuss your vacation plans with your new employer, ideally the person who made the decision to hire you and interviewed you. Express to them your concern and that you had been planning this family vacation for some time and unfortunately, in your zealousness and desire for the position forgot to meantion it. Ask them if would be a problem. That way, the ball is in their court. Let them tell you if it would be an issue, more than likely it will not be though.

I would not bring this up with a new employer. If you had brought it up when they made the offer, that would have probably been fine. But that's a pretty big thing to forget to tell a boss that just hired you and I would probably be a little less than understanding about it if I were that boss. It would make me think that you would easily forget other things. Sorry to say it, but I'm just giving you an honest answer.
I would wait to give the resignation in person. Send a note via email now telling her you need to speak to her so that she knows when you tried to bring this up with her. Phone is my second choice and email is completely not acceptable.

Switching jobs is not always as easy as it sounds at the beginning! I think most people would talk to their parents and reschedule their vacation or more likely postpone it until you can establish yourself with your new employer. Perhaps before you do this if you can get in contact with your new employer you can ask them about this situation but it's not going to be a plus unless you are a superstar or something and they have to have you! So think carefully about this.
As for your old employer, call her(if you can) and then just type up a resignation and leave a copy on her desk and or give one to personnel. They are probably not going to be happy about less than a weeks notice and if you want a decent reference from them later on it may be hard to come by!

Don't just resign. Ask if you can have the time off, and explain that it was already planned long ago but you forgot - it's real late, you should have asked when you accepted the job. But ask anyway. Then if she says no, you have a choice to make - either skip the vacation, or quit the job.

Ask. if your new employer needs you, then thats a priority. If he/ she says go, GO! you ahve nothing to lose, i mean if you go on ur trip, youll relax and have fun, if you work, youll get paid and show your employer how responsible you are by chosing to start the job rather than a vaca! but ASK!
