I was fired almost a year ago where I only worked there for very few weeks. It was my first real career job. I already received the job and accepted it. Now I need to meet with HR and I have 5 references (none from previous job) They are all excellent and related to the job except it was mainly internships, independent study and volunteer work. However, some I have worked with for a year to several years. I plan on putting this job I was fired from on my application under employment history. Will they just verify this place or inquire info as well?? I already gave 5 refers so I see no need why they would even contact them and ask detailed questions. I do know they will only tell just little bit of info. But I am wondering if they will then ask me for the actual supervisor contact info? I hope not since I do not and will now use her as a ref or give consent too. If I decline could they force me. I just dont think she is capable of assessing my abilities since its was a very short time

What is the best way to prepare for a job interview where you will meet with several people at the same time asking you a set of questions already prepared? I do not know the questions I just know how it is set up. I have all of the qualifications so how can I stand out and show them I am the one for the job. I really want this job and I do not want to be nervous!!

I have been off ill over about 8 occasions but have been booked off for most of those. My employer is now doing a formal investigation and say that i can only have a union rep or collegue present. I dont belong to a union and i dont want to ask a collegue due to the sensitivity of my illness. I really would like to quit but i am not sure what the consequences would be. Can anyone help.

I'm off this week - finished the old job last week - so i'm spending my time ebaying, cleaning and packing my house up as I'm relocating. How can I stop feeling so nervous?! I know I can do the job but I'm just not good at new starts!

The briefing given was -
===============================
You will be asked to give a short presentation(5-10mins) on a subject of your choosing. This can be on anything at all . We are not looking for people to demonstrate an ability to design and deliver training, merely to get the opportunity to hear you speak in front of others about a topic you are passionate about and take questions on this from the panel if asked.

You can choose any method you like to conduct your presentation, however you will not be able to use power point or any IT equipment.

Right then. Back again with more work/career related drama. Please help, kind, insightful answerers...

For the last 7 months I have worked in a sales support/office admin role for an IT for a small company. Directors are lovely, hours good and location great but v boring and very average salary (16K). Some telesales involved (yuck!!). I work entirely alone, and live alone too so I am very isolated.

Offered another job by large local (real) estate agents. Role includes office admin and sales admin, meeting and greeting vendors and sellers and database management. Much less responsiblitly but more money (20K) and work in lively busy office.

Current employer (IT company) accepted my resignation last week but now say they want to match the money (20K +), employ another member of staff to share my workload and keep me company, change role to suit me better and move to a nicer office.
I am SO confused. What would you do?

What are the chances of getting a Accounts Clerk job with no experience apart from helping the account floor out with various jobs, while im their receptionist.
If i went into a agency, would this be good enough for them to find a suitable (include training) accounts job for me?

I would dearly love to tell them exactly what I think of them, but a high level of professionalism prevents me from doing so. What would you like to tell your employers if you thought there would be no consequences? Don't hold back - I won't tell!!

i want to quit my job and i was just offered a job this week and was asked to go to it for an orination. I gave them a letter for one week because my training for my new job will start the next week. My boss told me i have to give the two week notice and its maintory, but i seen many eployees give a week notice or just quit. This job was over stressed for me and they would not let me leave on the time i was suppose to leave. instead i leave a hour later or two and sometimes three hours later.

I keep coming across jobs where you have to pay administration fees to get paid/join/sign up - apparantly to pay for 'admin' and paper work fees.....or you don't get paid until you have secured customers for them....what has the world come to.....i've even come across an 'employer' who tries to evade the issue of pay, and feeds people full of garbage info. about a 'company' that hasn't even been set up or probably doesn't exist......this sounds dodgy.....why are people ripping each other off out there ?!!!!!!!!!

i been at my current clothing retail job now for 6 months, and i'm due my review this week.

the job started out ok, i was full of enthusiasm as it was something i'd never done before and i needed the money. from the outset i struggled to keep an interest in certain aspects of the job, like putting out deliveries, and have always been slow at this. at my 3 month review i disscussed what i thought the problem was and we came to a solution. but i was still slow and they stopped me doing deliveries, so now i just tidy up and serve customers. i have more bad days than good. my motivation and enthusiasm are at all time lows, i dread going to work and have to drag myself there. i havent completed my action plan and i have never really been interested in "the tides of fashion" anyway.
i think they'll terminate my contract as i feel i no longer meet the "all round person" job criteria or should i just resign and get it over with? and should i admit all this at the review?

My final year of uni, after a year of travelling, I feel I need to get a job having spent my student years doing an English degree and amateur theatre. So I choose to do accountancy (seemed like it pays ok) and secure a job with one of the top 4 firms. 2 years on I'm 25, 18 months from qualifying, and thoroughly miserable in a job I'm good at, but which I hate as its completely 'not me'. I feel know value in my work, and dont feel I give anything back in it to the community. I'm itching to get into writing and travel, but my job eats up all my free time, I've got a mortgage, and I dont know how I can afford to quit and look elsewhere. On top of that I'm suffering from pride and dont want to feel like a quitter.

It all sounds thoroughly self indulgent but its eating me up...

Any ideas? I,m sure I'm not the only one in this boat...

My boss really likes me and has asked me out for breakfast and for beers in the past. He has a really bad reputation because he has a tendency to say things without tact. He is several years older than me, married without children and often complains about his wife. He is drop-dead gorgeous and knows it, but he's everyone's definition of a total ---. Strangely, I find that I have a soft spot for him, and when he's asked, I have given him lifts when his wife finished too late to pick him up. Recently, our conversations got too personal and he started flirting a lot. I complained about it and he got upset and gave me a real hard time at work for a while. Now he's re-started! I have a great boyfriend, and yet I find that this horrible boss is always on my mind. I think about him all the time and it's driving me insane, because I think I'm more scared than attracted--he's always staring at me so intensely and it makes me nervous. I feel like Little Red Riding hood. What should I do?
