I've been working at a business my neighbors own for a year now. My neighbors are really shady people. I can't stand them any longer and I've been very stressed out, depressed and unhappy, but I haven't quit because I need the money. It's not great pay but it's something. I've been on the edge for a while now and everyday I want to quit. I've been looking for a job but no luck. I have to pay for my phone and internet. Should I just quit and figure it out later or should I stay unhappy until I find another job?

My fiancée was working at a hospital as front window person. She wanted to be a administrative assistant. There were no openings at the hospital where she was working, so she found a job on the outside. After about 2 months she was fired from the new job. There was a period of about 6 months before she landed a second job as an administrative assistant. She was canned on that job also after about 2 months. She found a third job and the same thing happened. She never passes probation. She says she's trying hard, but all the jobs say pretty much the same thing, that she’s not catching on. She has an AS degree in computers, but none the less things are working for her. I've suggested that she try another line of work, but she is determined to be an administrative assistant. She's depressed now and tired of looking for work because she feels if she getting hired, the same thing will happen again. What can she do about this dilemma? She's driving me crazy with her depression.

So I now want to get my own back.

just got a new teaching job and have been sent quite a detailed form to fill in about medical history. I have the right to refuse my new employer access to my doctors' records, but this could make them even more suspicious and I'm worried I might be refused the job! I have had quite a lot of time off, for different things, most of which I'm over, and am currently being treated for a couple of different (but possibly related) health issues. Also, some of it is rather sensitive stuff (depression - now over, a digestive problem which has involved some lovely invasive tests, possible cancerous lumps on the jaw). My current employers' lack of sympathy has made me nervous about it!

I won't lie on the form, but I really would rather they didn't go rooting through my records. However, I don't want to refuse them access and look suspicious! Am I just worrying over nothing - are they even likely to check?

Can anyone who works for a county council, especially in HR, please give me a hand?

I work at a banquet facility where a wedding was held and when the bill was paid the deposit was not deducted, she was fine with getting a check 3 days later for the amount not deducted. the managers decided to give her a gift certificate and took the money for it out of my paycheck. Is that ok?

Hello! I'm 25 yrs. old, and after high school graduation (2000) I started school at a Technical college. Seems as though my mind wasn't ready for college so I started working full-time for the company that I am still currently with (not to crazy about either). I have moved up as far as I could without my degree. I registered at the college for this summer (May 28, 2007) full-time. Put a 2 week notice in with the job since they won't work around my schedule. I've never made a change like this before and I'm scared to death.!! I'm taking one step back to eventually take two steps forward in the future. I have no idea what I want to do career wise, or anything in general. How do I generate a plan on what I want from myself in the next 2 yrs.? Someone who went through similar situation please chime in and give me some advice! Seems as though everyone else my age is moving on (buying homes, getting married, making more money, etc.) Thanks for any advice!!!

I speek english, spanish and italian, but I don't speek norwegian (or how ever you call it).
I'm 24 and all I care is about getting some money while visiting my best friend over there.
I've worked as an english and spanish teacher before...
I'm also a dentist... so maybe I could work as a dental assistant or something...
I'm Italian (If that makes any difference)

My current job situation is intolerable. I've been here 6 months and it's a really bad fit for me. The boss is a complete idiot. He has no common sense and doesn't make sense when he talks. Half the time I don't understand him - he has a thick southern accent. My co-workers & I aren't even sure how he got the job except that the hiring mgr at the time wanted someone they could push around.
I will be leaving before I get another job but I don't want to use this boss for a reference. Do I have to use him? Is it ok to explain to perspective employers that my last job was just a "bad fit"? How does one explain a recent past job that they don't want to use for a reference?

I sometimes wonder how much people should talk about their personal life at work. I am divorced and my child does not live with me.

The majority of talk is about family life and children's activities. I prefer to talk about work and general topics (weather, current events).

It makes me feel left out when people talk of their families. I listen for some time and then change the subject or excuse myself.

I think personal life talk should be limited at work.

I also don't tell people my personal situation at all. Its my business and I don't want to share it.

Any opinions...
